The overrated Spell cards inYu-Gi-Oh!have been around in the game for a while and are still commonly used. Despite their popularity, it is clear they fell behind the meta years ago.

7Twin Twisters

Twin Twisters remove two of the opponents' spell or trap cards after the user discards a card. While being able to nuke the opponents' spell/traps is useful and a powerful move, there are much better cards that do this than Twin Twisters.

Cards like Harpie’s Feather Duster, which is run by one of thebestYu-Gi-Ohcharacters, and Dark Hole do a much better job of this and don’t require a discard. While those two cards were frequently banned in the TCG, they have been released back into syndication in recent years.

6Lightning Storm

Lightning Storm is a great card for its versatility, with it being able to either nuke the opponents' Attack Position monsters or Spell/Trap cards. The problem with this card is that it can be a dead draw very early into the game, as players need to control no cards on the field to use it.

Raigeki is a much better option for this. While Raigeki was frequently banned in the TCG for years running, it has been relaxed recently and featured more often. Since it’s been back in rotation, it has rendered Lightning Storm largely useless.

5Forbidden Droplet

Players that like to negate opponents' monsters' effects, halve their attacks, and generally switch the flow of the game mid-turn will enjoy using Forbidden Droplet. This card can negate as many monsters' effects as the user discards the card for, and halves the attack of all opposing monsters by a turn. Players may think that this is anunderappreciated spell card, but they’d be neglecting to consider the card’s downsides.

The issue with the card is that the attack halving is only temporary and it restricts the user to decks that revolve around recycling cards to the graveyard to use them. Plus, if the card is negated at the last moment, the player is in the position of having no cards in their hand or field, making them extremely vulnerable to attack.

4Crossout Designator

Crossout Designator banishes an opponent’s card from their deck after the player has named it. While it can be useful for stopping specific cards, it is largely to niche to be that useful for a player compared to other spell cards. It does, however, have some distinct card art that could double up as one of therichest anime characters.

While it is good to have cards that can counter specific cards, there are much better options than Crossout Designator that can do the job without being self-restrictive in what they can do for the player. The best use case for Crossout Designator is to prevent Maxx C, but Ash Blossom can do the same job without being as restricted in its effect activating.

3Called By The Grave

Called By the Grave banishes an opponent’s card from the graveyard and negates its effect. Similar to Crossout Designator, it’s a useful card for countering specific cards an opponent may have but is far too limited in its scope to be that viable.

There are plenty of better spell cards in thepopular card gamethat will do a similar if not the same job without being so boxed in on what they can target.

2Pot Of Generosity

So manyYu-Gi-Oh!players swear by the Pot of Generosity spell card. The card lets the player shuffle two cards from the hand to the deck before shuffling the deck. The shuffling options are part of what makes Yu-Gi-Oh one of thebest trading card games of all time.

The problem with it is, the user ends up two cards down and doesn’t even get a card from it. While Pot of Generosity can be useful if the player is struggling with a terrible hand, there are much better ways to mill and recycle.

1Sparks

Out of all the ‘inflict X damage to the opponent’ type of spell cards, Sparks has got to be the most overrated. The card allows the player to inflict 200 points of damage on the opponent. While 200 life points add up, there are far better spell cards that inflict more points. Considering the much better options out there, Sparks is one of thestrangestYu-Gi-Ohcards ever made.

There are much better options for Burn decks than Sparks, so players would be much better off by not including this card in their deck and going for something else.
