Back in 2019, creator of theXCOMseries Julian Gollop debuted his latest game,Phoenix Point, introducing players to a futuristic interpretation of Earth caught amidst an alien invasion. The game was originally exclusive to PC, but today, Snapshot Games announced that would change very soon, with the newly announcedPhoenix Point:Behemoth Editioncoming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4later this year.
The announcement was made earlier today by IGN, who confirmed the console ports of the title will launch on October 1 and contain a new DLC known asCorrupted Horizons, which will make its way to PC on the same day. Not only will theBehemoth Editionbring the game to new platforms and offer a sizeable expansion, but it will also come complete with plenty of bonus content, includingPhoenix Point’sthree previous DLCs, an extra weapons pack, free next-generation upgrades at a later date, and updated UI and controls.

Alongside the new details, IGN also unveiled two new trailers. The first confirms theBehemoth Edition’srelease date while offering a glimpse at the turn-based strategy title in action. The entire thing sets upPhoenix Point’sunique premise and mechanics, including a look at its enemies, equipment menus, and unique manual aiming system. The second trailer concerns theCorrupted HorizonsDLC, providing a brief introduction to the next slice of additional content forPhoenix Point.
For those who didn’t catchPhoenix Point’srelease on PC, the game follows asimilar premise toXCOM,seeing players assume the role of a commander who must bring together a team of soldiers to fight back against an alien invasion. They’ll go head to head across several procedurally generated maps, utilizing a combination of soldiers from three distinct factions to annihilate evolving enemies that change their tactics over the course of the game. WhilePhoenix Pointshares a lot in common withXCOM,it also strays from the series in several ways. One of the biggest deviations is its free aiming system, which allows players to manually fire their gun at a specific limb of the unit they’re targeting.
The game wound up getting three subsequent DLCs in the months since its launch, with the lineup includingFestering Skies, Legacy of the Ancients, andBlood and Titanium. Each addition added new content to the base experience, which players on consoles can look forward to jumping into when theBehemoth Editionhits shelves. In the meantime, they can play several other tactical shooters in the same vein asPhoenix PointandXCOMon consoles, includingGears Tactics, Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden, andWasteland 3.
Phoenix Pointis out now on PC, with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One editions slated to launch on October 1 and PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions arriving at a later date.
