Leveling Dragonflight Alchemy from 1 to 65

Alchemy has always been an important profession in World of Warcraft and that continues to be the case inDragonflightas well. Anyone looking to tackle end-game content needs a steady supply of potions, phials, and other consumables that can only be crafted via Alchemy. Thanks to the fact that these valuable consumables are always in high demand, they tend to fetch a nice pretty at the auction house and can bring in a steady source of income for intrepid Alchemists.

Most items that can be crafted with Alchemy require elemental reagents found only in the Dragon Isles along with various plants and herbs. Alchemists who prefer to gather all the materials they need themselves should consider choosingHerbalismas their secondary profession. That said, players who have plenty of gold on their hands can simply buy all the reagents instead.

Dragonflight Alchemy New Features

Professions are more interesting than ever before in Dragonflight. In fact, they’re one of the best features of this expansion. The developers implemented a number of changes designed to make professions more fun while also making them more difficult to max out. Below are some of the most important new features players will have to keep in mind while leveling up Alchemy in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight.

Profession Accessories

Profession accessories are part of a new category of items that improve profession-related skills in a variety of ways. These items can be equipped in the new professions interface and have different stats compared to normal pieces of gear. Alchemists get access to two profession accessory slots along with one profession tool slot. There aren’t any major differences between accessories and tools in terms of functionality, however, tools are rarer and tend to be more expensive.

Resourcefulness

Resourcefulness is one of the new profession-specific skills added in Dragonflight. The skill gives Alchemists a chance to use up fewer reagents whenever they’re crafting consumables. Exact numbers are not specified and vary from consumable to consumable.

Inspiration

Inspiration gives Alchemists a chance to craft consumables at a higher-than-normal skill level. Players start with 5% Inspiration right off the bat and can increase that chance further with accessories.

Multicraft

Multicraft is exactly what it sounds like. The skill gives Alchemists a chance to craft additional potions, phials, cauldrons, and other consumables. Multicraft can trigger for most items, with Alchemist Stones being the only noteworthy exceptions.

Item Quality

The quality level of an item basically dictates how good it is. A high-quality healing potion, for example, will replenish more health than a low-quality one. Crafted pieces of gear have five levels of quality while crafted consumables only have three.

Reclaim Concoctions

Alchemy has a new feature in Dragonflight that allows players to salvage unwanted potions or phials in exchange forDragon’s Alchemical Solutions, a reagent that can then be used for potion experimentation. Reclaiming Concoctions is only possible for whole batches of potions and phials, it won’t work with just one or two.

Potion Experimentation

Potion Experimentationis another new feature available only to Alchemists. This one can be used to potentially discover new recipes at the cost of using up Dragon’s Alchemical Solution,Artisan’s Mettle, andOmnium Draconis. Experimentation also works with phials.

Dragon Isles Alchemy Knowledge

Dragon Isles Alchemy Knowledgepoints are used to advanceSpecializations. Players can acquire Alchemy Knowledge from a variety of sources, but they can only obtain a certain number of points per week. It’s important to carefully consider how you spend these points because they are non-refundable.

First Craft

First Craft is one of the main ways to acquire Alchemy Knowledge. Whenever an Alchemist crafts a new recipe, they will be rewarded with Dragons Isles Alchemy Knowledge and Artisan’s Mettle. Just as its name suggests, First Craft only works once per recipe.

Crafting Tables

Crafting tables aren’t exactly a new Dragonflight feature, but they are integral to every crafting profession in this expansion. While some items can still be crafted in the field, most recipes now require a crafting table. Every profession has a unique crafting table – in this case, an Alchemist’s Lab Bench. In addition to the lab, Alchemists also have to visit another specialized crafting station known as the Altar of Decay in order to make certain types of potions and phials.

How To Learn Alchemy in Dragonflight

Players can learn Dragon Isles Alchemy shortly after reaching the Dragon Isles. After completing the handful of quests found in the introductory area, players will be sent to the Wingrest Embassy, the expansion’s first sizeable quest hub. To find the Alchemy trainer in Wingrest Embassy, keep going forward after climbing the stairs until you reach the Flight Master. Inside the building next to the Flight Master, you’ll find an Innkeeper and a handful of profession trainers, including An’Timon, the Dragon Isles Alchemy trainer.

Besides An’Timon, there are three other Alchemy trainers found throughout the Isles: Zherrak, Srireth, and Conflago. Zherrak is located in The Waking Shores in the center ring of the Ruby Life Pools. Meanwhile, Srireth can be found near the Shady Sanctuary in the Ohn’ahran Plains, and you’ll find Conflago in the Artisan’s Market in Valdrakken.

Alchemy Specializations

Profession specializations have returned in Dragonflight and are bigger and better than ever before. Alchemists get access to three different Specializations, each of which then splits up into various sub-Specializations. Players can pick their first specialization at Alchemy level 25 and will be able to unlock the remaining ones at level 50 and level 100, respectively. Unlike previous expansions, Dragonflight doesn’t make specializations mutually exclusive, so it’s very much possible to invest points into all three of them.

Dragonflight Alchemy Leveling Guide

Maxing out Alchemy, or any profession for that matter, in Dragonflight is significantly more difficult than in previous expansions. Crafting recipes as soon as they become available will only get you to around level 65. From there, it’s mostly a matter of using Potion Experimentation and Phial Experimentation to get all the way to 100. It’s worth noting that players will need to invest a lot of Alchemy Knowledge in order to increase the chances of successful experimentation.

Crafting Ordersand recipes acquired via Renown can also be very helpful when trying to grow the profession past level 65. However, these methods may be more time-consuming depending on the availability of Crafting Orders on your server and your Renown level with various factions. Most Alchemists will be better off using experimentation despite the high investment of reagents and Alchemy Knowledge points.

Healing and mana potions are crafted in batches of 5, hence the need for 10xDraconic Vials. Draconic Vials are made by Jewelcrafters and can also be purchased from reagent vendors and the auction house. It’s important to hang onto these two batches of potions as they will come in handy a bit later on.

Leveling Dragonflight Alchemy from 65 to 100

Feel free to useReclaim Concoctionsto salvage more batches of potions and start building up a stockpile ofDragon’s Alchemical Solution. You’re going to need it for experimentation.

The exact number of reagents needed can vary depending on your luck, but essentially, you’ll want to keep makingOmnium Draconisuntil you hit level 25 and unlock the first Alchemy Specialization.

There are a couple of other recipes available to craft before you start experimenting, includingPrimal ConvergentandPhial of Tepid Versatility. These can get you to around level 35. Regardless of whether you want to start at 25 or 35, you’ll need to rely on experimentation to get from there to 50. Potion and phial experiments require the same quantities of reagents so feel free to mix and match as you see fit. You can discover a wide range of recipes during experimentation, but it’s generally not worth crafting those that don’t give guaranteed skills-ups; at least not at this level. Experimentation itself is guaranteed to give you a skill up.

These potions are very expensive, but they grant 3 guaranteed skill-ups the first couple of times they are crafted. Afterward, they become yellow and can no longer be relied upon up to grant skill-ups. That said, it might be worth crafting more batches of them just because they’re sought-after and sell well on the auction house. If you’ve got resources to burn, it’s possible to reach level 65 using Elemental Potion of Power.

Alchemists who don’t want to spend more resources than needed onElemental Potion of Powershould resume experimenting. It’s worth noting that experiments can sometimes blow up and prevent players from conducting additional experiments for the next four hours. The cooldown can be removed withLiquid Courage, a potion that can sometimes be obtained as a byproduct of experimentation.

Dragonflight Alchemy Leveling Guide - 65 to 100

From here onward, it’s pretty much business as usual as far as experimentation goes, however, there are a couple of things Alchemists can do to increase their chances of new recipe discoveries, the first of which involves Specializations. While you can do this sooner, it’s recommended to start investing inAdvanced Potion ExperimentationorAdvanced Phial Experimentationat around level 65. Each of these sub-Specializations will lead to discovering new recipes faster while also providing other bonuses.

Advanced Potion ExperimentationandAdvanced Phial Experimentationare unlocked via two separate Specialization trees. Each of them requires an investment of 40Dragon Isles Alchemy Knowledgepoints to unlock, so it’s a good idea to go for one or the other instead of trying to unlock both. 40 points isn’t a huge amount for some players but if you’re starting Alchemy from scratch, it will take you a while to gather them.

For a quick boost ofDragon Isles Alchemy Knowledge, you’re able to buyDusty Alchemist’s Research,Ancient Alchemist’s Research, andRare Alchemist’s Researchfrom Artisan’s Consortium reputation vendor withArtisan’s Mettle. Only one of each item is available for sale, per character.

There are a few recipes that can help speed things along, but they will need to be purchased either from the auction house or from reputation vendors. Bear in mind that some of these are extremely expensive. Then, there are also a couple of recipes that can be unlocked via Specializations. Again, knowledge points have a weekly cap, so it will be difficult to unlock them while also working toward advanced experimentation, but we’re listing them as well just in case.

Continue using experimentation whenever it’s off cooldown while crafting some of the recipes below if you can get your hands on them, and you’ll eventually make it to Alchemy level 100.
