One such feature is the Ping system, whichWorld of Warcrafthad first introduced shortly after Patch 10.1.5was released. Separate from the existing pings one can make on the mini-map, this sleek new system allows players to quickly create waypoints in the world itself to visually alert their party members. Using Pings, players can flag locations, creatures, or even unit frames with warnings, attack orders, requests for assistance, or arrows, allowing them to coordinate and communicate without words.
The default keybind to pull up the Ping system wheel is G, but it can be rebound to another key. Additionally, players can customize the Ping system in several different ways, such as how the Ping radial menu is accessed. Using the Quick or Relaxed setting, players can interact with the menu in whatever way works best for them. This new feature is a part of the baseWorld of Warcraftexperience, so they won’t needDragonflightto use it.
Many players are excited to experiment with the Ping system. They were surprised by how easy it looks to use, and some think it is a great addition to the game. A few players also pointed out that combining pings with macros andWorld of Warcraftaddonslike WeakAuras will provide valuable tools that will make coordinating raids and teaching boss strategies much easier.
Other fans are less enthusiastic about the Ping system. Many cited some players tend to spam pings simply to be annoying in games likeOverwatch 2orLeague of Legends, and feargriefers will do the same inWorld of Warcraft. Luckily, with the ability to mute or adjust the volume of pings, or turn them off altogether, players should be able to avoid such problems.
World of Warcraftis introducing other quality-of-life updatesin Patch 10.1.7, including the Sell All Junk button. Nearly every patch sinceDragonflight’s launch has added more UI functions, so even though no information has been revealed about Patch 10.2 yet, players can safely bet it might have even more quality-of-life features they can look forward to.
