It was three years ago thatWolcen: Lords of Mayhemmade its way onto Steam in Early Access, and after lots of fine-tuning and improvements, it finally launched. Witha launch trailer that displays the best ofWolcen, both in terms of gameplay and in story, it seems set to be a huge hit with fans of isometric, action-filled RPGs.
Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem’s story follows a pair of siblings in the army of the United Republic of Mankind, a warmongering nation that treats all magic as witchcraft, in an attempt to purge the forces that threaten them from the world. Its gameplay follows the siblings as they cleave through hordes of foes with precarious tactics, flashy spells, awesome weapons, and seriously cool transformations. It almost feels like someone mergedWarhammer,Diablo, andDevil May Crytogether, which is great news forDiablofans.

With all of the hype surrounding it, some fans of the game wondered ifWolcenwould be making its way to consoles, especially the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. At the moment, there is no release date for the game on either system, and no immediate plans by the developers to port the games to those systems. The group behind the game has said on Twitter that it would like to bringWolcento Xbox One at least, but wants to make sure it runs smoothly and gains a decent audience on PC before moving it to other systems. Considering the fact thatWolcenis currently experiencing post-launch troubles, this is probably the best move on the developer’s part.
Wolcen’s presence on PC is likely already scratching an itch that many gamers are waiting forDiablo 4to fill, so its home on Steam is practically assured already. The fact of the matter is that there is a limitedpool of games for players who want theDiabloexperience, andWolcenfits very nicely into that pool.
This does leaveWolcenin the precarious position of being a direct competitor toDiablo 4when it finally releases, which could be an incentive to jump to other consoles and pick up new players. After all, theDiabloseries has some very loyal and very creative fans, and they will flock toDiablo 4when it hits shelves if only to wash the bad taste ofDiablo Immortal’s reveal out of their mouths.
