Triangle Strategyis one of the longest RPGs to hit the Switch in quite some time. Some players may just be finishing up with it now, over a month on from its successful launch. The main campaign will probably take around twenty hours to complete, depending on the amount of grinding and reading that players do.

After players see one of the four endings inTriangle Strategy, they have the option to carry over progress into New Game+. This should extend the playtime even more. Among those four endings is the true path, which some call the Golden Route. The following questions and plot holes discussed will follow this storyline for consistency’s sake. However, they won’t be touching on New Game+ inconsistencies, like how characters from the late game can appear early. That would take too much time. Needless to say, there will be spoilers forthis lengthy RPG.

8Prince Roland’s Disguise

One of the big plot points inTriangle Strategyhas Prince Roland fake his own death to fool the Aesfrost army. They somehow obtain a body and then dress it up to look like Prince Roland. They even give this corpse his family crest. Apparently, no one saw any fault with the body at all.

It’s a bit hard to believe that Serenoa and the others could create a body double that good. Also, when Prince Roland disguises himself as Ser Maxwell, no one sees through that fakery either. The only thing different about his outfit is that he is wearing a mask with a hat. It’s a bad strategy in anotherwise great RPGwith strategical battles.

7The Hierophant

Most players will probably figure out early on that there is something wrong with Hyzante’s Hierophant. When it speaks to Idore in cutscenes, there are only three dots that appear. Some might have guessed there was no one in there but the truth is even stranger: Itis a robot.

Hyzante is a religious country that believed wholeheartedly that the Goddess existed and that the Hierophant was truly speaking for this deity. However, in all that time, did no one think to question not seeing her? She was presumably still human, after all. A human who needed food and toilet breaks.

6Avlora Joining House Wolffort

There is a constant disconnect that some players might experience time and timeagain with RPGs. It’s the idea that someone who terrorizes a group of people for a considerable amount of time can be forgiven at the drop of a hat. It happens in other media too, especially anime.

General Avlora decimated the people of Glenbrook. Then, towards the end of the game, she comes begging for forgiveness and wishes to join Serenoa’s party. They mention how this is awkward in the game but they still allow her in. This sentiment on Serenoa’s part is sweet in a way. It’s not the strangest thing inTriangle Strategy, but it is a hard pill to swallow.

5The Boat Zipline

There are a lot of mechanics that don’t make sense inTriangle Strategy. A whole list could detail the inconsistencies like with the aforementioned New Game+ mode. It happens with RPGs all the time. One of the funniest that deserves mentioning happens if players give chase to the Aesfrost boat with Cordelia on board.

Players can cross over from their boat to the enemy’s boat with a zipline. This makes sense. However, whena horse riderlike Prince Roland or Hossabara crosses over, their sprite will drop the horse in the zipline animation. When they land the horse will reappear. It is very silly.

4Will They Find Centralia?

If playerschoose to sidewith Frederica in Chapter 17, then Serenoa and the others will free the Roselle from Hyzante. The big difference between this storyline and the Golden Route is that the party will escort the Roselle to this promised land. They find it.

The details are brushed over, but, apparently, it was exactly where Frederica’s mom predicted it to be. The sad thing is that Serenoa dies so it is a bittersweet end for a strategy RPG. This does not happen in the Golden Route, so, will the Roselle find it in this correct timeline?

3No One Entered The Mines Prior To The End?

The conflict that sparks the whole uprising inTriangle Strategyinvolves the newly opened mine. The idea was that this mine, presumed to contain iron, was going to be shared across all three nations. However, Aesfrost gets greedy and declares war on Glenbrook for a crime they didn’t commit.

Why they did this remains a mystery until Serenoa and the others find out that Aesfrost discovered salt crystals instead of iron. It’s hard to believe that no one went to these mines to investigate this until toward the end of the game. Granted, Glenbrook was occupied for a while, but it’s still hard to imagine no one, not even a stealthy spy like Anna, was sent to look into it.

2The Fate Of The Side Characters

Players can recruit and commandover twenty charactersinTriangle Strategy. It’s a great roster for a strategy RPG and makes the idea of replaying it again to get everyone appealing. However, it’s a bit sad that the ending toTriangle Strategyis so abrupt, no matter which ending players choose.

It would have been nice if every character in the game got some kind of send-off.Square Enixis not opposed to this idea. They did this inFinal Fantasy 6, so it would be nice to find out what happens with everyone after the ending ofTriangle Strategyas well.

1What Else Is There In The World?

One of the more disappointing aspects ofTriangle Strategywas how small the world seemed to be. There was a single map that contained three nations on seemingly one lone continent. Surely this can’t be the entire planet. What else is going on in the world?

It would be interesting to explore this idea in a sequel, whether it’s one that’s connected to Serenoa or not. Also, it’s safe to assume that true peace wasn’t even achieved among all three nations. There will probably be other rebellions that sprout up, especially those who dedicated their lives to the Goddess in Hyzante.
