Ubisoft on Monday shared a new screenshot from The Last Chapter, the final DLC forAssassin’s Creed Valhalla. The in-game image reveals a return of memory fragments from the base game, with Ubisoft confirming that the majority of the upcoming DLC will revolve around collecting these pieces of reminiscence to find out the true end of Eivor’s story inAssassin’s Creed Valhalla.Assassin’s Creed Valhallahas been enjoying a fairly regular influx of new content ever since its late 2020 release. The Last Chapter will round out the game’s vast selection of DLC, which was last expanded withThe Dawn of Ragnarokearlier this year. Unlike its previous expansions, however, The Last Chapter will be a more contained experience that won’t be sold separately from the base game. Instead, Ubisoft is adding it for free as part ofAssassin’s Creed Valhalla1.62 update, which is set to release on December 6.RELATED:Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Update 1.6.1 Patch Notes Revealed by UbisoftThe glowing object seen in the newly shared screenshot from The Last Chapter is one of five memory fragments that the DLC will add to the game. Discovering and synchronizing all of them will provide players with “new perspectives” on Eivor’s story, Ubisoft said. While other narrative details on the DLC remain scarce, the developers recently revealed thatThe Last Chapter will reexamine Eivor’s relationship with Havi.

Since Ubisoft is poised to once again use memory fragments as a narrative framing device, the upcoming expansion will seemingly bear some resemblance with the mechanics of discovering The Truth video inAssassin’s Creed 2, one of the most universally beloved installments in the long-running franchise. But while that particular game had a fairly well-received conclusion,Valhalla’sfinal chapter is a daunting taskfor Ubisoft since some fans believe the developers still have a lot to do to provide Eivor with a satisfying ending.

Speaking of long checklists, accessing The Last Chapter won’t be easy, as the DLC comes with a fairly large number of prerequisites that are likely to take over a hundred hours to complete. While the last three mainline games were largely targeting a demographic that’s generally receptive to large amounts of content, Ubisoft’s decision to cater to RPG aficionados alienated some of the series' core fandom, so it remains to be seen whether next year’sAssassin’s Creed Miragewill manage to do enough to appeal to both.

Assassin’s Creed Valhallais available now on Amazon Luna, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The Google Stadia version of the game will remain playable until the service shuts down on Jun 24, 2025.
