ThePersonafranchise has provided gamers with some of the most popular JRPGs of all time, and it’s not hard to understand why. With its blend of slice-of-life gameplay, battles, catchy soundtracks, and Jungian themes, there’s really nothing like it on the market.
Fans have been patiently waiting and speculating aboutPersona 6, but Atlus has kept its lips sealed regarding the game, leaving gamers to wonder when the highly anticipated title will finally be released. If it’s a matter of waiting for the Switch 2 to launch before the nextPersonagame is released, there are some pros and cons to this.

The Pros of Persona 6 Launching on the Switch 2
Withno official information on the Switch 2, players have had to rely on speculation and reports that claim to have leaked information. According to these reports, the next device from Nintendo will be a powerhouse comparable to the PS4 and Xbox One. These reports claim the gaming gadget will be capable of ray-tracing, will support Unreal Engine 5, and will have backward compatibility. Although it was originally speculated that it would launch this year, reports now claim that it can be expected in the first quarter of 2025.
It’s been a few years since a mainline numberedPersonagame has been released, but it may be worth waiting a little longer if it gets to launch on the Switch 2. This could allow for a game that not only looks better, but is capable of better performance. Though the Switch has repeatedly punched above its weight with games such asThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the WildandHogwarts Legacy, the performance of these games has been less than ideal.

Is Persona 6 on the Way?
Like the Switch 2, the game is shrouded in mystery. Atlus hasconfirmed thatPersona 6is in development, though no release date has been given. As expected, there’s been no word on its content either, though this hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from spinning.
The Cons of Persona 6 Launch on the Switch 2
There are many benefits toPersona 6launching onNintendo’s next gaming console, but there are also some downsides. As has been discussed, the upcoming Switch 2 is rumored to be more powerful than its predecessor. However, this doesn’t mean it will be performing anywhere near what the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S are capable of. Consequently, Atlus is faced with two possible paths, and neither is good.
Developers could develop the game chiefly for the weakest console it’ll launch on - the Switch 2 - which may result in a game that isn’t as expansive or ambitious as it could have been. The other option is to focus on more powerful consoles, and then port it to the Switch 2. While this is a viable path, it could lead to performance issues on Switch 2 that detract from the gameplay. This dilemma is not unique toAtlus' games, and developers will have to consider this problem when dealing with multiplatform releases.
Will Persona 6 Run on the Switch 2?
Fortunately, Altus has experience portingPersonatitles to weaker systems. This was seen withPersona 4 Goldenwhich runs flawlessly on the PS Vita. There are also several Persona titles currently on the Switch with no major performance issues reported, includingPersona 5 Royalso there may be nothing to worry about.
Currently, speculation is all that’s available regarding bothPersona 6and the Switch 2. However, havingPersona 6as a Switch 2 launch title would certainly be an interesting intersection.
