The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HDfeatures a number of side quests, which can serve as a welcome distraction from the game’s epic main story. One of these involves Link cleaning the house of his fellow Knight Academy student, Pipit, and will see the tunic-clad adventurer rewarded with a red Rupee as well as fiveGratitude Crystalsupon its completion.

Unfortunately for Link, Pipit and his mother aren’t the tidiest of people, nor do they own a broom or vacuum. As a result, he’ll need to use a special item that’s acquired inthe Lanayru Mining Facility dungeon, meaning players will have to complete a significant portion of the game before they can tackle the quest. The good news, however, is that it’s an incredibly simple side quest to turn in once equipped with the right tools.

Updated July 19, 2025 by Tom Bowen:It’s been a few months now since the release of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, yet a slow trickle of sales continues to roll in. Despite the age of the game, many people still seem keen to explore Sky Loft, or, in some cases, return there. Those hoping to complete everything that the game has to offer will at some point need to tackle the Cleaning Pipit’s House side quest, which, as well as a few extra Gratitude Crystals, will also reward players with a shiny Red Rupee and some unique dialogue.

How To Start The Cleaning Pipit’s House Side Quest

Before players can begin the quest, they’ll first need to have obtainedthe Gust Bellowsfrom the Lanayru Mining Facility and they’ll also need to have completedthe Lost Child side questfor Wryna. Assuming they’ve already done these things though, they’ll be able tostart the quest by heading to Pipit’s houseon Skyloftand speaking with his mother, Mallara.

Mallara will ask Link to help herclean the house, which is covered from top to bottom in a ridiculously thick coat of dust. If and when Link agrees to help out, she’ll mention that she doesn’t have a broom and suggest blowing the dust away instead. Of course, it just so happens that Link has the perfect tool for the job.

How To Clean Pipit’s House

If they haven’t already, players shouldequip the Gust Bellowsand thenbegin blowing the dust from every single surface in the house. Most of it’s on the floor, but a lot of the furniture is also caked in dust, as too are the three windows near the door. As players clean, many of the items in the house will be blown over and broken, but this won’t affect the reward in the slightest and sothere’s no need to worry about being careful.

After the dust has been removed fromevery single surface, nook, and cranny,Mallara will stop Link automaticallyand let him know that the task has been completed. If players leave the house before this happens, all of the dust will respawn and they’ll have to start again from scratch. If players speak with Mallara and tell her that they’re done before they actually are, they’ll be able to speak with her again and pick up where they left off; assuming, that is, that they didn’t leave the house in between the two conversations.

Once the house is spick and span, Mallara will let Link know that he is finished and thank him for all of his hard work. She’ll hand overfive shiny Gratitude Crystals, and, just as she promised, will also offer upa red Rupeetoo. Given how dirty the house was andthe relatively low value of a Rupeethough, this seems like more of a slap in the face rather than a fair reward.

If they choose, players can farm Rupees hereby returning and repeating the quest as many times as they like, but they’ll only get Gratitude Crystals the first time and there are arguably much better ways to make money in the game. It’s also possible toeavesdrop on an argument between Pipit and Mallaraby walking past the house at night after cleaning it for the first time, although there’s no real reward for doing this besides some unique dialogue.
