Twistersis not a sequel to the 1996 original film and it is not a reboot either unlike some other notably legacy releases. This one follows Kate, a budding meteorologist interested in tornadoes. When research on a particular trip goes bad, she retreats for five years until suddenly being pulled back into the game.

That’s when she meets her strongest competition yet, Tyler, a budding YouTube star also out for tornado-based thrills. Who will come out on top? That is the basic premise, but like the original film,Twistershas some great one-liners and thoughtful quotes to keep track of.

Jeb and Kate in Twisters

8“It’s Gonna Be Okay.”

Jeb

Twisters hasa dramatic openingbecause it kills off almost the entire cast minus Kate and Javi. During their excitement, the tornado proved too much for the team, causing them to capsize their truck. They run for cover with only Kate and Jeb making it to an underpass.

As Jeb is covering Kate, he tells her it will be okay and that he has her. Shortly after he is taken by the tornado, but these words haunt Kate throughout the film for better or worse.

Kate and Javi in Twisters

7“Get Your A** Out Of The Street!”

New York Driver

The movie warps ahead five years with Kate inNew York Cityas a weather analyzer. Eventually, Javi, the other survivor, tracks her down. When he asks Kate how things are in the city, Kate says she loves it as a random New York City driver harasses her.

It’s a funny juxtaposition between how Kate thinks New York City is treating her and how the city is actually treating her. She’s in denial about how much of a country girl she still is who longs for those open fields.

Javi’s team planning in Twisters

6“Yeah, And Everyone With A Weather App.”

Scott

Kate eventually agrees to tag along with Javi and his crew for a week in Oklahoma. Their first stop is a gas station where Javi’s team is waiting on top of dozens of other teams. There are YouTubers, tourists, other kinds of streamers, and so on all looking to see a tornado.

Kate asks what their deal is when Scott replies with this line. He’s implying that tornado watching has become a hobby and not a profession anymore for the greater good. It’s an interesting premise for a sequel to acult classic disaster movielikeTwister.

Tyler meeting his fans in Twisters

5“If You Feel It, Chase It.”

Tyler

It takes a while for Glen Powell’s character, Tyler, to show up. It’s also at this truck stop and he is clearly the king of the streamer culture. He’s boisterous, loud, and has a whole lot of southern twang to his speech pattern, look, and swagger.

His channel’s catchphrase is, “If you feel it, chase it.” It seems like Tyler is only in it for the thrills but there is more tothis western cowboythan meets the eye. Kate just has to learn that books shouldn’t be judged by covers.

Boone, Ben, and Tyler in Twisters

4“I’m Assuming This Is Safe.”

Ben

Ben is an investigativejournalist from Londonwho is reporting on Tyler and his channel. He’s clearly a meek individual and it is funny to see him blend in with Tyler and his crew. During an early tornado, Ben asks if it is safe to drive into a tornado which of course it isn’t.

He’s trying to fool himself into thinking Tyler and his crew are valuing safety over thrills. He would be dead wrong on that front but thankfully Ben never dies. He just pukes a little from the “thrill.”

Kate and Tyler in Twisters

3“This Ain’t My First Rodeo.”

Kate

Saying’ “Thus ain’t my first rodeo” can be applied to a lot of conversations. It’s a catch-all for telling someone they have done an activity before. InTwister’scase, this quote is quite literal.

Tyler takes Kate to a rodeo and she explains that it isn’t her first. She corrects Tyler and explains she grew up in Oklahoma and she isn’t just some naive city girl as he assumed. She too learns not to assume with Tyler as he shows her a gentler and wiser side.

2“Have You Been In A Car Before?”

Once Kate does start to trust Tyler, she gets in his truck to do a quick tour of a tornado wrangling. As she is sitting there, she’s flipping all kinds of switches and grabbing stuff. That’s when Tyler says this line as if Kate was some rambunctious child.

It’s a cute, playful scene to showcase that both of their walls are lowering. To be fair to Kate, Tyler does have a lot of cool gadgets like his fireworks and his drill mechanism to stay still while a tornado passes over the truck. He looks ready fora game ofTwister Metal.

1“You Can’t Park Your Car Here!”

Airport Traffic Police

There are not a ton of notable cameos in the movie all except one. Paul Scheer is a famous comedian and character actor in shows and movies. Fans of good bad movies probably know him best forhis movie podcast,How Did This Get Made.

InTwisters, he has a bit part at the end as a security guard trying to get Tyler to leave the airport drive-up. Eventually, Tyler anchors himself in with his drills and chases after Kate. Paul Scheer doesn’t get a lot of time to shine, but it’s a memorable role and set of lines nonetheless for fans.
