Now that the game is out, Shift Up is actively working on the post-launch content strategy for the game, having already added aNew Game+ mode inStellar Bladeat launch. To that end, the developer could further deliver a challenge mode to refresh the game for fans in the near future.
In an interview withKorean publication Nate, Shift Up CEO andStellar Bladedirector Kim Hyung-tae revealed that the developer is currently building a “Boss Challenge” mode for the sci-fi action game. Further, the report highlighted that no other plans for future content, such as DLCs, currently exist besides this particular mode. Taking into account similarly named modes in other games, there are chances the forthcoming boss-centric mode could involve the player facing a series of consecutive boss fights.
During the interview, Hyung-tae also shared his opinion on the positive critical feedback forStellar Blade, saying “I am very satisfied with the score.” He emphasized how the developer didn’t overlook the importance of narrative while making the action-heavy game. Further, he talked about the role ofmusic inStellar Bladeand games in general, remarking that it has the ability to “touch people’s hearts.” Speaking of Shift Up’s game-making approach, the director underlined that it is always imperative to “think about the fun” in the game.
Stellar Blade’s Success and Controversies
Despite the controversy surrounding thelook ofStellar Bladeprotagonist Eve, the Shift Up game has managed to garner positive reviews from a majority of both players and critics since release. At the time of writing, the PS5 exclusive has a score of 82 on Metacritic and ranks 27th among the best-rated games in 2024. This means that the post-apocalyptic game is in the company of other highly rated hits, such asHelldivers 2.
To keep the favorable feedback coming, Shift Up recently added a New Game+ mode and multiple bug fixes as part of the day-one patch forStellar Blade. While the patch has brought new content for the players, many people have accused it of adding censorship in the game and have signed an onlinepetition to challenge these changes inStellar Blade. It will be interesting to see how the developer navigates through this issue and if it affects the game’s content going ahead.
