Summary
Starfieldcan generate some incredibly powerful weapons through its loot system, as one player showcases an epic rifle that deals thousands of damage per bullet. Much likecharacter traits inStarfield, every piece of equipment in the game can also possess game-changing traits. Some ignore armor, others reduce oxygen consumption, and most are an exciting find regardless of effect – a sign of good itemization in an RPG. Bethesda designed much ofStarfield’s weaponry from the lessons it learned when developingFallout 4andFallout 76, and many players have consequently cited gunplay as one ofStarfield’s biggest strengths.
Though meleeweapons inStarfieldaren’t as varied as they were inFallout 4, the game offers a lot of options for ballistic and laser weaponry – from pistols and sniper rifles to heavy weapons and more. As opposed to armor,Starfieldplayers can also upgrade their weapons with a wider array of mod categories, further improving upon the random traits they initially rolled with. It may take a while for that perfect rifle to spawn, which is why it’s always important to prioritize traits and then use weapon mods to bridge the power gap inStarfield.

For Reddit user Morfalath’s rifle, the combination of Shattering and Instigating traits has produced an incredibly powerful weapon. Being able to ignore the target’s armor, coupled with the ability to deal double damage to targets with full health allows Morfalath to easily get a head start on just about any enemy type in the game. Sharing the appropriately named Mammoth rifle on the officialStarfieldsubreddit, this 2797 Physical Damage ballistic rifle may well be one of the best-rolled weapons inStarfieldyet.
It’s important to note thatStarfield’s tooltips display values with situational buffs accounted for, meaning that the real damage on this particular rifle is 1398 (rounded down). However, few enemies can survive a hit that deals 2797 damage while ignoring armor, which is where the Mammoth’s damage potential really shines. Though the weapons found inStarfield’s opening hours can be exciting, the really powerful stuff can only be found by opening up thestar map inStarfieldand roaming the high-level planets usually found in the eastern end of the Settled Systems.
While using console commands to obtain powerful weapons and armor is certainly a valid option in every Bethesda sandbox, doing sodisables achievements inStarfield. As the game continues to enjoy widespread popularity and success, players are still hoping that Bethesda will add more weapon variety in the future, as laser and melee weapons remain woefully underrepresented compared to ballistic ones.
