InStardew Valley, a rare event is an RNG-based experience affecting specific gameplay aspects. These scenarios, also known as Random Events, are often impossible to trigger without using mods, and some players might never come across them despite playingStardew Valleyfor many years. To illustrate how uncommon some of these Random Events are, the following list ranks the most unusual happenings in Pelican Town from the most probable to the least.
Updated on June 06, 2025, by Mohsen Baqery: With the 1.6 Update for Stardew Valley, a lot has been changed about Pelican Town. One of the welcome changes has been the addition of a new rare weather event known as the Green Rain Day, which has many players anticipate the summer each year. The current update to this list includes this uncommon event, as it’s simply too popular to be ignored.

14Green Rain Day
A Common Event That Feels Rare
The list of rarest events inStardew Valleywouldn’t be complete had it not included the latest random event of the 1.6 Update:Green Rain Weather. Although this one is not as rare as other events on the list, it feels equally strange every time the player wakes up to a green rain and a mossy Pelican Town.
The Green Rain Day occurs once every summer, so the chances of encountering one are quite high. It’s just that the event’s day is random, happening on any of the following summer days: Fifth, sixth, seventh, fourteenth, fifteenth, sixteenth, eighteenth, or twenty-third.

During the event, most trees will be covered with moss, and all trees and weeds will grow much more rapidly. There’s a good chance that most saplings on your farm will grow into mature trees in one day. The event is also perfect for huntingMossy SeedandFiddlehead Fern, as Green Rain Trees and Weeds will become abundant. Players don’t need to worry about the mess the green rain brings because its effect disappears the following day as if nothing happened.
13Meteorite Event
Something Has Fallen from the Sky
Every year inStardew Valley, there’sa 1% chance that an extraterrestrial object will hit the farm. For this event to trigger, the farm must contain a 3x3 empty space, of which at least a 2x2 area is free of buildings, animals, and water.
When the farm meets the event’s prerequisites, farmers hear an explosion at night. The next morning, they’ll finda giant meteor on their farmthat seems unbreakable—and immovable. To get rid of this space boulder, players must have a Gold or Iridium pickaxe.

Players are better off not removing the meteorite from their farms; it can serve as an exotic decoration.
12Wild Animal Attack
The Wolf Of Pelican Town Street
When no other Random Event is triggered in a save file, theWild Animal Attackincident is guaranteed to happen. However, players must leave the animals in their barn or coop outside overnight. If everything goes as planned, they hear a wild animal sound at night, indicating that a vicious creature has attacked their farm.
The next morning, all the animals’ status will show a text claiming that they are unsettled and paranoid because something horrible happened last night. While the game won’t explain the details, players can assume thata predator has attacked thembecause one oftheir beloved farm animalswill be missing.

Even when triggered, the Wild Animal Attack event hasa 50% chance of doing nothing. So, players might hear the terrifying sounds at night, but all their animals might survive the incident.
11Placing Lewis' Golden Statue In Town
The Embarrassing Effigy
One of the many secret notes the player finds during their adventures will lead them to a hidden solid gold statue of Lewis behind one of the houses in Pelican Town. The gold statue is purely decorative, depicting Lewis, the town mayor himselfin all of his glory.
Players can choose to keep this statue on their farm, or, in order to see a super rare event, they can place the statue down in Pelican Town for a hilarious reaction from the angered mayor himself. The statue will be gone the next day, replaced with rotten plants. The player will also receive a message from Lewis through the mail.

10The Witch
Black Is The New Green Slime
The WitchinStardew Valleyhas a surprising amount of lore to her.Through Rasmodius, players find out that she’s actually his ex-wife, and lives in a swamp north of Pelican Town. The Witch is never at home when the player visits, but she might visit the player’s farm if they get lucky enough.
At night, there’s a 1% chance the Witch will appear and fly over either a coop or a slime hutch. Her magic will either spawn a Void Egg which can be incubated into a Void Chicken, or it will turn a random slime into a black slime. It’s also possible for her to leave a golden egg in a coop instead of a Void Egg, but only if the player has achieved 100% perfection in the game.

9The Crop Fairy
Express Fairy Fertilizer
The Crop Fairyis probably considered the opposite of the Witch. Her magic is light magic and is another random and rare event that can happen during the night. Some conditions have to be met, however: it has to not be winter, and there must be ungrown crops (not Wild Seeds) available for her to use her magic on.
Crops affected by her magic will be fully grown the next day. The area affected is a 5 by 5 tile area. Her appearance is extremely rare, and only has a 1% chance of happening. However, when it does, it’s a huge boon for farmers who are only just starting their journey in the game.

8Squirrel Figurine
The Nosy Player’s Trophy
There’s no element of chance involved in theSquirrel Figurine. It’s just so out of the way that most won’t ever find it on their own. When entering the Volcano Dungeonon Ginger Island, players will have to cross a river of lava. Instead of going to the other side, use the Watering Can to head down the stream to the left. Players will eventually come to a secret exit.
The exit leads back outside, to a bank on the river. There’s seemingly nothing to do here. But, if the farmer goes fishing in the leftmost part of the river - near the edge of the map - they will eventually catch the rare Squirrel Figurine.

7Stone Owl
The Best Listener In Pelica Town
The Stone Owlis a random event. Every night, there is a 0.5% chance the statue will appear on the farm, provided there is an empty space for it. Players will know when it happens by the owl sound effect that plays after bed. The event can trigger multiple times in the same save file.
The statue is a bit spooky, but rest assured that it doesn’t harm the player. It doesn’t do anything to help, either. The Stone Owl is just for decoration’s sake. Don’t confuse it with the Stone Owl sold at the Night Market. They have the same name but look completely different.

6Green Sea Creature
The Loch Ness Monster Is Real
It’s no secret that merpeople live in the Gem Sea. The Wizard mentions them at one point. One of them is in a boat at the Night Market.Another one lounges near Pirate Coveon rainy days. They all look like the typical fairytale mermaids. But there’sa more gruesome creature lurking in the oceanthat most will never see.
There is a very rare chance that a green,Creature From The Black Lagoon-esque beastie will poke its head through the waves near the docks at the Beach. It will only appear in open water tiles that have a clear path to the bottom of the map. The spawn chance is about 0.06% per second.

5Marnie And Lewis
A Secretly Unveiled Secret
The nature ofMarnie and Lewis’relationshipis one of the game’s biggest subplots. It’s hard to ignore, especially when the player has to retrieve Lewis’s purple shorts from Marnie’s bedroom. There are still many tiny details sprinkled throughout the game, including a very rare line of text.
When entering Marnie’s shop, there’s a small chance the above dialogue will appear, implying she was waiting for Lewis. There’s an even rarer bit of dialogue to unlock from this — a 0.01% chance for her to say “… When the door opened, I thought it might be Lewis.” How scandalous.
