Sonic Maniawas heralded as the gameSonic the Hedgehogfans deserved, as the most recent releases have been received with less than expected applause. The rewind back to theclassic 2D style of Sonic was widely celebratedand has been very successful. With this success, it’s been a bit frustrating to see oldSonic the Hedgehoggames hang around. However, that may be coming to an end as a known leaker has come out with news thatSonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckleswill be returning at some point in the near future.

According to known leaker Zippo,Sonic the Hedgehog 3will be making a return in the near future, albeit with some changes. Zippo goes on to say that there will be some changes made to the game, but to “stay tuned.” WhileSonic 3 & Knucklesis still available on Steam, it has yet to make its way to other consoles since the Wii. However, with Zippo’s post, this might take on another manner and go on the more modern consoles available.

Zippo has been connected to other rumors, such asa newDonkey Konggame, and it’s no surprise that they are pointing out thatSonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckleswill be making a return in some manner. It’s unclear as to how they’re getting this information, but if it turns out to be true, then fans will have a reason to be excited.

While this could be exciting for classic Sonic fans, it’s unclear as to howSonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckleswill make its way to other consoles. With the franchise’s30 year anniversary upon players, it could make its way into a collection of sorts rather than a singular release, as it stands on Steam.

While 3DSonic the Hedgehoggames have been the main releases for the franchise, players still show their love for the classic 2D versions, especiallywith the release ofSonic Mania. WithSonic Maniabeing developed by fan developers, it stands to thought that Sega is looking at what makes a popular Sonic game work, and a re-release of an extremely popular 2D Sonic game would go a long way to helping the brand.

It’s unclear as to what and when anything will happen. As it stands now, the only legal route to obtainSonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckleswould be through Steam, but that could all change soon. If Zippo is correct, console fans will be excited for the future of Sonic.
