Sonic Superstarshas revealed its release date at Gamescom Opening Night Live, and alongside it has come the release date forSonic Frontiers’final free DLC update. In two brand-new trailers, fans were given a taste of the 2D platforming action that they can expect once the nextSonicgame releases, as well as a quick glimpse into the new story coming toFrontiersthat wraps up its post-launch updates. At the end of the preview that points out all the fun things Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy will get up to in their next adventure, its revealed that players can expectSuperstarsto hit store shelves on October 17. However, if fans had been paying attention to the rumblings surrounding the game, they may have known this already asSonic Superstars’release date was leaked by GameStopshortly after its initial reveal. This leaves the latest 2D game in the series in a bit of a tricky spot, though, as October also marks the release ofSuper Mario Bros. Wonder.

Shortly before that, however, Modern Sonic fans get to go one more round with the titans ofSonic Frontiersas the final DLC pack launches on September 28. While all players got to see of what’s called “The Final Horizon” update at Gamescom was a brief teaser, it reveals that Sonic, as well as his friends and enemies, need to work together to defeat one last threat. A press release from Sega also confirms thatSonic Frontiersis getting new playable charactersin the form of Tails, Knuckles, and Amy while the trailers implies that Sonic has a brand-new Super form on the way.

Sonicfans have quite a lot of new content coming in the next few months to keep them busy for the next while. As Sega’s mascot speeds through his games, there’s also comics and the newSonic PrimeTV show to enjoy both before and after the release ofFrontiers' DLC andSonic Superstars.
