2022 has already been a wild year for Rockstar Games, as thenext majorGTAgame was leakedearlier in the year. It included extensive gameplay footage from an in-developmentGrand Theft Auto 6, and it also confirmed a dual protagonist setup for the game. Rockstar Gameshas now shared a bizarre video on its Twitter account that consists of unsettling background sounds along with a mishmash of colors. It begins and ends with the Rockstar Games logo flashing with the same assortment of colors, but doesn’t point to anything concrete. The clip is only 15 seconds long, but some believe that Rockstar is teasingGTA 6in the video. A leak pointedto GTA 6having a big focus on drug cartels, so some players think that the video could be connected to the central theme of the game.
On the other hand, others believe that Rockstar Games is simply promoting thelatest update forGrand Theft Auto OnlinetitledLos Santos Drug Wars. This update went live on December 13, and it’s said to inject a “psychoactive strain of chaos intoGrand Theft Auto Online.” The description matches the clip in some ways, but it’s unclear if the strange video is connected to the upcomingGrand Theft Auto 6or if Rockstar Games is just promoting theLos Santos Drug Warsupdate.
While there isn’t any officialrelease date forGTA 6, a rumor pointed to it coming out in 2025. If this rumored date turns out to be true, it would result in a massive 12-year gap between two mainline titles in theGrand Theft Autofranchise. By comparison,GTA 5came out around five years following the release ofGTA 4, with the gap being even shorter in previous entries.
