By early 2021,Harmon’s new show was officially announcedto be heading to Fox, and the basic premise was given to much fan anticipation. However,Krapopoliswould take a while to set a release date, with its initial 2022 release being pushed back to 2023. However, the delay has proven fruitful for Harmon, as execs at Fox have renewed the unreleasedKrapopolisnot once but twice on the strength of its development and perceived potential. According to Micheal Thorn, President of Scripted Programming at Fox, “the more we see from production, the more excited we are about their creativity, story arcs, flawless execution, brilliant voice cast, and ability to pump out episode after episode of astonishing events and outrageous, unexpected hilarity.”
“Leave it to Dan Harmon to turn the mythos of early Greek civilization into remarkably sharp commentary on today’s politics, celebrity, and pop culture," Thorne continued. “This project is an incredibly irreverent family comedy, as told by one of the town’s most inventive storytellers. We are proud to be partnered with Dan on this series, which strengthens our hold on the animation space and, as we continue to build Fox Entertainment, marks an important first step for us with our first fully owned scripted property.” Putting in strong work is a testament to Harmon’s work ethic. He also has his work onRick and Mortyand aCommunitymovie in the works.
Krapopolis' debut is finally in view, and signs point to Fox execs delaying it. Thorn added, “The 2023-24 season is the perfect launching pad for this highly anticipated and very funny animated comedy, complete with multiple seasons of epic laughs for fans.”
In addition to an auspicious release window, a fresh premise, and massive studio confidence, Harmon’s work onKrapopolishas the distinct advantage of being far removed from any involvement withHarmon’s most infamous collaborator Justin Roiland, who was charged with felony domestic abuse at the beginning of the year. While nothing has been proven, the negative press would likely not do any Roiland-related project favors.
