Respawn Entertainment has developed an impressive list of titles in the last few years, includingApex Legends,Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and most recently the VR titleMedal of Honor: Above and Beyond. The studio, consisting of a little more than 300 employees, was purchased by Electronic Arts in 2017 and has continued to develop games. Now, a job listing at Respawn Entertainment could point to a brand new IP.
Respawn Entertainmentis currently looking to hire a generalist software engineer. However, on Respawn’s job listing page, each new position also has a designated game attached, such asApex LegendsorStar Wars, but the job listing for the generalist software engineer position only specifies the position is for a “New IP Incubation Team.” This could point to Respawn actively creating a brand new IP to develop, but it’s likely still in the early stages.

Because the job listing specifies new IP incubation, it sadly means that the new position will most likely not have anything to do with a newTitanfalltitle or theStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Ordersequel. However, Respawn Entertainment’s recent titles have largely been met with positive fan feedback so an entirely new IP is an exciting prospect.
Respawn Entertainment has shown incredible range in terms of game design, having released a first-person shooter, aStar Warsaction-adventure title, and an exclusively VR title in the last two years. Respawn Entertainment got its start with theTitanfallfranchise in 2014, but has not developed a new entry in the franchise since 2016. Rumors have circulated regarding thedevelopment ofTitanfall 3, however, a brand new IP could overshadow the development.
EA has confirmed that theStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderis the first entry of the franchise, so fans will see more Star Wars content coming from Respawn, but as far as a brand new IP is concerned, the subject is a mystery. The job details do not reveal much about what the new IP could entail, other than a small bullet point in the “Why Join Us” section that reads, “Pioneer new, practical technology to enable ‘adventuring forever’.” While the description does not reveal much, it could be hinting at gameplay technology that may be developed for the new IP.
Respawn Entertainment has been busy with continued support forApex Legends,Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond, and most likely the development of aStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Ordersequel. If a brand new IP is being developed as well, Respawn is in for a big year in 2021. Even though a new IP reveal from Respawn is most likely far off, more information may become available as it is developed.
