Resident Evilfans had high expectations for PlayStation’s State of Play for June 2022 and Capcom has delivered. The show started off with the announcement of a remake forResident Evil 4, but that wasn’t it forResident Evil’s announcements. Capcom also revealed that 2021’s hugely popularResident Evil Villagewould be coming to a new platform – virtual reality.Resident Evil Villageis officially in development for release via the PS5’s upcoming PSVR 2 headset.

Capcom made the announcement with a short 90-second trailer during Thursday’sState of Playpresentation. The trailer focused entirely on first-person virtual reality gameplay, givingResident Evilfans a close look at whatResident Evil Villagewill look like on PSVR 2. The good news is that it looks just as high quality asResident Evil Villagealready does on modern platforms. The bad news is that the trailer was relatively limited in scope.Resident Evilfans will have to wait for a deeper dive into the VR game.

The trailer forResident Evil Village VRon PS5 focused entirely on a single section of the game, that being the popular Castle Dimitrescu region. That means players got an excellent look atLady Dimitrescuand her up close and personal interactions, including her intimately drinking blood from Ethan’s wrist. Lady Dimitrescu’s daughters are also heavily featured in the trailer, hinting at the intense encounters players will face with each of them.

While theResident Evil Village VRPSVR 2 trailer doesn’t show much in terms of gameplay, with little movement and only brief combat encounters are with the sickle-wielding Moroaicas, fans shouldn’t stress. Capcom has confirmed that the fullResident Evil Villagestory is being converted into a virtual reality experience forPSVR 2. That likely means that there will be some changes, but the heart of the experience will be retained.

Resident Evil Village VRwill, of course, require users purchase the PSVR 2 headset, which has yet to have its launch details confirmed. Capcom states it plans to use the PSVR 2 headset’s 4K HDR display, eye tracking, and 3D audio to their fullest.Resident Evil Village VRwill also require the use of thePSVR 2 Sense controllersfor tracking hand movements in-game.

While initial details are limited,Resident Evilfans can perhaps look back to previous Capcom VR releases for insight into plans forResident Evil Village VR.Resident Evil 7, for example, was fully released on VR – and absolutely terrifying, at that. As such, expectations will be high forResident Evil Village VR. Expect more information at a later date as PlayStation finalizes its release plans for the PSVR 2.
