Despite a rocky midway point when the series started gearing more towards action in entries five and six,Resident Evilis back in top form. As well as being one of the most successful horror franchises in the industry, featuringone of the most iconic save functions in gaming, it’s changed up the classic formula to keep things fresh and has had a string of well-received remakes. The first installments have successfully been brought back to life with more contemporary development methods, and it looks like another is on the way.
That is to say, an unofficial remake ofResident Evilis currently in the works by an independent team. A brief trailer showing how it looks so far was spotted by DSO Gaming. The most interesting thing about this fan-made project is that it’s being done in Unreal Engine 5 and will seemingly keep the fixed camera angles and tank controls of the original classic. Due to the engine it’s being developed in, it looks pretty fantastic so far. At the time of writing, there doesn’t appear to be a release window for this remake.

Fans are always keen to show their love of this long-running and influential franchise. There’s the recentResident Evil 9concept videothat fantastically shows a possible scenario in which the major tyrants of the games make a return, as well as a slew of remakes created by the community. Evidently, theREgames have left a lasting impression on the gaming world, and players just want to see more coming out of the woodwork.

It seems that right now is a good time to be anREfan. It’s an even better time for those who haven’t really experienced the games before, seeing as they’re now going for cheap on Humble.
WithCapcom working on the remake ofResident Evil 4, plus rumors ofRE9being officially in development, the classic horror franchise is by no means finished. Since the game was rebooted back in 2017, taking it away from the action-orientated fifth and sixth entries, there’s been renewed interest inResident Evilin general. This is noted not only by the success of the 2021 follow-upVillage, but also in the way that fans are keen to get in on the act and create their own remakes and remasters.
