Legendary and Mega Battle Raids may get most of the attention inPokemon GO, but there’s often a lot of value to gain from the smaller Battle Raids, as well. One and three-star Battle Raids still offer the chance for players to earn some great item rewards and guaranteed encounters with some powerful Pokemon that can help build upa respectable PvP and PvE collection.

Tier 3 Raid Bosses can often be solo’d inPokemon GO, but only if players understand the boss' weaknesses and assemble a strategic counter roster. EachPokemon has its own strengths and weaknessesand part of preparing for an effective Battle Raid means studying those weaknesses and forming a respectable counter roster. Trainers who are preparing to face off against a boss like Poliwrath will have a handful of important weaknesses and resistances to take into account.

Poliwrath’s unique Water- and Fighting-type pairing gives players a lot of options to consider as they pull together a counter roster for the battle. The pokemon has a long list of weaknesses, so hopefully any trainer should be able to assemble a strong counter roster for the fight. Although tier 3 Battle Raids aren’t as challenging as Legendary and Mega showdowns, trainers may still want to take the time to spend someStardust, Candy, and Elite TMsto get everything in order before the fight.

Poliwrath Weaknesses

This tier 3 Battle Raid boss is a Water- and Fighting-type, which means thatPoliwrath is weak against Electric-, Flying, Psychic, Grass-, and Fairy–type moves.

Poliwrath Resistances (Avoid These!)

Poliwrath is resistant against Bug-, Dark-, Fire-, Ice-, Rock-, Steel-, and Water-typeattacks. Players should avoid putting Pokemon reliant on those move types in their lineup.

Deoxys - Zen Headbutt/Zap Cannon

Tapu Lele - Confusion/Future Sight

Assembling a counter roster based on those suggestions should be all it takes to defeat Poliwrath in tier three Battle Raids. Be sure to stick to the recommended counter types and enter the battle with enough allies around to help out and earn that one attempt victory. High level players with the best counters can technically solo this tier three raid boss, but players who want to play it safe shouldenter the fight with one to three friendsinstead to secure a successful battle.
