ThePokemon GOHolidays eventis still raging on, but it won’t be long before Christmas is in the rear view mirror and trainers begin looking forward to a new year in the mobile AR game. To help celebrate the transition to 2022, Niantic is throwing a big New Years 2022 that kicks off on the final day of 2021 and runs through the first few days of January.
It has become tradition forPokemon GOto throw a New Years event every year and this year players won’t want to sleep on the festivity. There are going to be a ton of activities to enjoy throughout the New Years 2022 event including special spawns, bonuses,Raid Bosses, and some Timed Research.

The event will kick off late on December 31 and players have just about four full days to take advantage of the bonuses and finish the associated Timed Research. There are also going to besome Costumed Pokemonmaking an appearance, which means that collectors will have something to chase down throughout the event, as well.

Timed Research
To celebrate the New Year, you’ll be able to complete Timed Research featuring Pokémon appearing during this event. Complete the research tasks to encounter various costumed Pokémon! Exact tasks and rewards have not been confirmed yet, but check back soon for those details.

New Avatar Items and Stickers
The following new avatar items will be available to purchase in the in-game shop beginning with this event and will continue to be available after the event ends!
For a bit of additional fun, there will also be fireworks appearing in the game from Friday, July 30, 2025, at 11:00 p.m. local time to Sunday, June 21, 2025, at 12:00 a.m. local time. At this point, there is no indication that the fireworks will impact gameplay. Players will also be able to getNew Year’s–themed stickers by spinning PokéStops, opening Gifts, and purchasing them from the in-game shop. All of the costumed Pokemon, Stickers, and Avatar gear definitely make this event a tempting one for trainers who prefer to focus on the collectible aspect of the mobile AR experience. The exact value of the event for more PvE or PvP focused players may not be clear until a full look at the Timed Research rewards becomes available.
