APokemonplayer has created a Fire-Type version of the starter pocket monster Mudkip. Gamers like to take Game Freak’s various creatures and give them new designs based on alternate Typings. This has led to many interestingType changes for variousPokemon, as players imagine what could be.
Mudkip was first introduced inPokemon Ruby and Sapphireand was theWater-Type starterfor that generation. Fans of the series love the pocket monster, going as far as to create a meme around the creature. One player even created an alternate form for the Pokemon, changing up what is normally expected from Mudkip.

A Reddit user named abz-art created aFire-Typeversion of Mudkip that they shared with the world. The artist took the Pokemon’s usual blue colors and changed them to various reds and oranges. The spikes on its cheeks have been replaced with flames, along with the fin that was on top of its head. The fin that served as a tail was changed to a flame design as well. Abz-art also gave their version of Mudkip a mischievous smile and bright red eyes, which helps give it a fiery nature that matches its new Typing.
Abz-art’s Fire-Type Mudkip has garnered a number of fans, with one saying that thePokemonis now their child. One commenter gave the pocket monster the nickname “Mudkindling,” while another named it “Spudkip,” stating that it is a hot potato. One user feels that the new design is 100% better than the original, with another mentioning that they can see this version of Mudkip happening, though they do question which region it would be from. Abz-Art’s version of the Water-Type starter is cute and is a nice spin on the Pokemon that many know and love.
Mudkip is not the only Pokemon having fans change up its Typing. A Redditor known as DumbShoes created a version ofPsyduck for every Typingavailable at the moment. The user was very creative in making the different Psyducks, turning the Bug-Type into a bee, the Fighting-Type a boxer, and the Dark-Type a witch. The artist even went as far as making the Electric-Type a typical Psyduck being electrocuted, and the Flying-Type being the original version of the Pokemon equipped with a jetpack. It is more humorous than the Mudkip Type change, though both do bring interesting ideas for changes to some of Nintendo’s creatures. This is especially true for Mudkip, as the pocket monster has such a big presence in thePokemoncommunity.
With a new generation ofPokemongames on the way, fans have to wait and see if pocket monsters such as Mudkip will receive changes similar to what abz-art imagined.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violetwill release for the Nintendo Switch on November 18.
