A Reddit user named JJonnie posted their idea for a Paldean regional variant of Coalossal. Their concept changes the pocket monster’s body shape to something that resembles a gray snake with coals on its back, and the artist also gave thePokemon a Shiny formthat turns it into a blue color. The Paldean version of the creature was changed to be Rock/Dragon-Type, though it did keep Coalossal’s Steam Engine Ability.
JJonnie also gave a bit of background information on their version of the Rock/Dragon-Type pocket monster. This form of Coalossal helps coal miners by carrying materials and also protects them from cave-ins. The Redditor also gave thePokemon a Signature Movecalled Cargo Dump, which does a large amount of damage at the expense of the creature’s health. JJonnie also created a few other attacks that Paldean Coalossal can learn, including Fire Blast and Draco Meteor. This version of the Rock/Fire-Type is well thought out and would be a nice addition toPokemon Scarlet and Violetthrough the upcoming DLC for the titles.
JJonnie’s version of Coalossal has gained a number of fans on Reddit, with a number of them bringing up the similarities that thePokemonhas to the Rock-Type Onix. Some did suggest that the pocket monster could be an alternate evolution for Carkol rather than being a different form of Coalossal, and that it should have some kind of relationship with the Onix evolutionary line. Others stated that JJonnie’s concept would have been a better path for Rolycoly to have gone, as they were not fans of the original’s design. Either way it is nice concept and would make for a very cool-looking Pokemon. As time goes on, fans of the series will continue to create their own regional variants and will come up with interesting ideas that fans can enjoy.
