While Xbox fans have known what the next Xbox is going to look like for months, Sony fans eagerly awaiting thePlayStation 5haven’t been so lucky. Sonyremains tight-lipped about the PS5’s designto this day, so fans have taken it upon themselves to come up with their own ideas while they wait.
The past year or so has seen many share their own takes on what various aspects of the upcoming console could be, ranging from its packaging to itsstartup screento, of course, the PS5 itself. These have varied widely in both style and quality, with a fair number of them providing some truly intriguing design concepts in the process.

This latest example, from Reddit user ruddi2020, skews more towards conventional thanother PS5 design conceptsside of things, going for a “more minimalist/modern” aesthetic with their vision for the PS5. While the design maintains a more typical rectangular shape, it manages to stand out with rounded corners, a sleek raised top marked with a large ring and the PlayStation emblem, and a thin blue light bar on the front to provide it with a splash of color.
More than just looking cool in its minimal approach, the design is also meant to cover the practical demands the PS5 will experience. This is evidenced in features like the large side vents and the raised top, both of which are meant to provide increased airflow for cooling the console (a major factor inhow the next-gen consoles are being designed). In addition, ruddi2020 states that the circle on top could serve as a wireless charger for the DualShock 5.
All in all, it’s an amazingly clean design that looks professional enough and feels believable enough that it could honestly work as the officialPS5concept design, but it’s not the only concept ruddi2020 has come up with, however. They also recently shared aconcept for a PS5 based on the original PlayStation, one that maintains the basic features of Sony’s first console but sports a noticeably taller base, making it a distinctly next-gen take on a classic.
As cool as these designs are, though, it goes without saying they’ll most definitely be very different from the real thing, whenever Sony decides to unveil it. With the PS5 still on track to launch this holiday season, odds are fans won’t have to wait much longer before the console is finally unveiled, but until that happens,fan conceptslike these are helping to make the wait more bearable.
