According to a leak, there is a new patent for an attachment to the PlayStation 5 controller that would allow Braille text on a flexible display on the controller. This would allow many partially blind players or those with vision impairments who can’t usually read the on-screen text to be able to touch the text on their controllers. While this wouldn’t be the onlychange to the PlayStation 5 controllersfrom the DualShock 4, it could mean a lot to gamers who have trouble seeing clearly.
This is great news for accessibility in gaming. While it is only a patent and may not come to fruition, it’s nice to know that Sony is working to make gaming accessible to more players, even if they have a visual impairment that might make playing video games very difficult. It isn’t the onlypatent that Sony has made for the upcoming PlayStation 5 controllers, but it sounds like one that many people would love to have in particular.
The strides in accessibility across the gaming spectrum is good news for all players, as everyone who loves video games should have a chance to play them. This patent seems like an addition to the PS5 controller that could see a mention at theAccessibility Awards.
