The updated version of the Wii U’sPikmin 3has arrived on the Nintendo Switch by means ofPikmin 3 Deluxe.And with it, the original story mode, cooperative gameplay with another player, as well as some new content starring Olimar and Louie fromPikminandPikmin 2.
Though most fans of the series have likely already playedPikmin 3on the Wii U, the new content in thehighly reviewed updateadds some extra bang for the player’s buck that might entice them to replay the game as well as plenty for newcomers of the series to enjoy. Overall, there is plenty to explore inPikmin 3that should give fans a good bit of playtime.

For newcomers,Pikminplaces the player in the role of space explores who have landed on a distant, unknown planet. The explorers make use of the various Pikmin they come across to solve puzzles, fight enemies, and collect fruit juice in order to survive the planet’s many hazards. Different colored Pikmin offer different abilities that will assist the explorers throughout their journey; Yellow Pikmin are electricity immune, Red Pikmin can traverse fire, andBlue Pikmin can safely walk under water. This entry also introduces Rock Pikmin and Winged Pikmin, which can break glass and fly respectively.
The story mode itself will take just about 13 hours to complete if players simply play at their own pace, give or take a few hours based on skill and exploration. The original Challenge Missions fromPikmin 3make a return as well, adding a couple more hours of content boosting the total time to around 16 hours. Completionists should spend about 20 hours trying to complete all the content that the original game offers up. A demo mode allows players to experience a taste of the game,or more if they glitch past the allotted content.
The newChallenge Missions starring Olimar and Louieinvolve timed based challenges where the player is tasked with completing certain parameters under a time limit (typically about 10 minutes). While there are only 6 of these in total, and they aren’t incredibly substantial, they’ll add at least another hour or so to the game. Completing these missions unlocks some funny videos starring Olimar and the Pikmin, and while they aren’t gameplay, they’ll give the player about 20 more minutes ofPikmincontent.
At a base level, there is roughly 22 hours of content inPikmin 3 Deluxe, though fans should be aware that thecooperative mode will add some replay valueto the game. The nature of thePikmingames themselves lends to replaying the game in general as players attempt to beat their high scores so while there’s just over 20 hours of content, this is a game that begs multiple playthroughs and has potential to offer endless hours of content as long as the game keeps the player occupied.
