Summary

AnOverwatch 2fan recently discovered a reference to Onyxia, one of the most iconic bosses inWorld of Warcrafthistory. This literal Easter egg is tucked away in the volcanic region of the new Samoa mapOverwatch 2added in Season 7.

Rise of Darkness,Overwatch 2’s seventh batch of seasonal content, recently began, bringing with it a new Battle Pass, a rework to Sombra, and aDiablo 4-themed PvE mode. However, one of the most influential additions from the season gameplay wise is the new Samoa Control map, which has been added to the rotation for both Quick Play and Ranked.

Redditor andOverwatch 2fan Zertexxa-gd recently discovered an Easter egg on this newmap that harkens back toWorld of Warcraft. The volcano control point on Samoa is surrounded by lava that instantly kills players who fall into it. If players fly or float underneath the control platform, they will find three spiked eggs nestled on a rock near the lava. Though Zertexxa-gd did not recognize them, fans ofWorld of Warcraftcould immediately identify them as eggs belonging to black dragons, who often make lairs in volcanic regions.

Old school fans may note these black dragon eggs look almost identical to the ones from the Onyxia encounter, one of the mosticonic raids inWorld of Warcrafthistory. ClassicWoWplayers know better than to get close to these eggs, as they hatch and spawn many whelps to quickly wipe the party. Players have also seen plenty of dragon eggs recently in modernWorld of Warcraftthanks toDragonflight.

Not many players saw Zertexxa-gd’s Reddit post, but some other players have discovered this particular Easter egg for themselves already. Those that did see it got a kick out of the hidden reference, and made plenty of references to the iconic Onyxia Wipe meme from the early 2000s.Overwatch 2andWorld of Warcraftfansshould be sure to show off this Easter egg to their friends before it becomes more common knowledge.

These dragon eggs aren’t the only Easter egg to be found on Samoa. Some fans have discoveredlore about the history of Polynesia in theOverwatch 2universe, as well as what appears to be an apartment belonging to Mauga, one of the prime candidates for the next tank hero. As players battle across the new map, they should continue to keep an eye out for clever references across its control points.

Overwatch 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
