Overwatch 2is finally out, and it’s making waves in the wider gaming community. Taking a free-to-play approach,Overwatch 2is being played by millions of players, breaking any records that the previous game held. But that doesn’t mean everyone is completely happy with the game. While players are enjoying their time with the game for the most part, somelong-timeOverwatchfansare a bit disappointed that there aren’t more significant changes or features, and when looking back to all that Blizzard promised in its promotional material for the game, that’s not entirely unfair.
Overwatch 2was officially announced back in 2019, and in the years that have followed, Blizzard has hosted several showcases for the game. While a lot of the features in these early demos have wound up in the final product, there are a good few mechanics that haven’t. While that’s to be expected for features shown off in early development, that’s a little surprising for those teased just a few months ago, with one feature being shown in June 2022, and not having made it toOverwatch 2’s early access release.

Overwatch 2 Is Missing Weapon Inspections
Back in June of this year, Blizzard debuted a newOverwatch 2gameplay trailerduring the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase. Along with a release date, this trailer also revealed that weapon customization would be coming toOverwatch 2, along with the ability to inspect the weapon during gameplay. The trailer sees both Lucio and Cassidy inspecting their weapons, holding them to either side so that their weapon charms can be seen on the side of each gun.
For some unknown reason, the ability to inspect a weapon during gameplay is not yet available inOverwatch 2. While players caninspect their weapons in the Hero Gallery, and can equip a variety of unlockable charms, they won’t be able to access any type of inspection animations while actually in a match. The closest players can get is if they let their character go idle after a while, as that will occasionally trigger them to move their weapon around and inspect it, but that isn’t really the same thing at all.
Weapon inspections would be a great feature forOverwatch 2, as it would actually incentivize players to unlock the new weapon charms. Right now,Overwatch 2’s weapon charms are a bit of a mixed bag. For some heroes, the charms function as they should, but for others, their weapon charms don’t even fit on screen due to how the character is holding their gun. Junkrat, for instance, holds his launcher too low for players to be able to see the weapon charm properly, making them a pretty worthless cosmetic for fans of certain characters. That’s an imbalance that Blizzard needs to address to make weapon charms feel worthwhile.
Introducing weapon inspection animations would actually let players appreciate these new cosmetic charms, and would add some more value toOverwatch 2’s Battle Pass. To go one step further,Overwatch 2should also let players show teammates their weapon, with a specific weapon inspection animation that shows off the weapon to those directly in front of them. AsOverwatch 2is still technically in early access, it makes sense that this weapon inspection feature was removed before release, especially if it caused any technical issues behind the scenes. However, it would be great to see the feature come to the game in a future update.
Overwatch 2is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
