The next adventure of the Straw Hats has already begun, and as expected, they have suffered an early hiccup en route to their next destination. InOne Piecechapter 1060, the Straw Hats could be seen moving towards an island with very bad weather.
Their voyage was tumultuous, and they were required to change their clothes as the climate of the specific island was extremely chilly. Jimbei and Nami had to work together to steer the ship away from any possible dangers. Upon escaping the horrific ocean currents, they encountered another cumbersome problem. The only difference was that this time it was not natural.

The Fearsome Creation
InOne Piecechapter 1061, Luffy, Chopper, and Bonney were thrown into the sea by the strong winds that were released once Zoro sliced the Eddy. Normally, it would have been an easyrescue for the Straw Hats, but this time the water was infested with a mechanical shark so huge that it dwarfed the Thousand Sunny. The mechanical shark tried to devour the ship, but it failed. So, it decided to attack using projectiles.
The Straw Hatswere completely unaware that the shark was fitted with weapons, so they couldn’t prepare for the attack. Once the projectiles made contact, the Thousand Sunny capsized and the crew fell into the sea. Given the circumstances, there wasn’t much that the crew could do, so they had to rely on fate to rescue them. Luckily, a giant robot emerged and knocked out the shark. Then it lifted the Thousand Sunny and a person came out of the robot, and she claimed to be Dr. Vegapunk.

The Smartest Person In The World
Seeing Dr. Vegapunk for the first time in the series is monumental. Over the course of the series, the name has been brought up many times, but they never made an appearance until the most recent chapter. Dr. Vegapunk is a very important figure in theOne Pieceworld and their appearance at this point in the series can only mean one thing- the finale ofOne Piecehas officially begun. Dr. Vegapunk’s appearance means that there isn’t much time left before the readers find out aboutthe origins of devil fruits. In an SBS interview, Oda affirmed that the truth about devil fruits would be uncovered once a certain professor makes his appearance in the story.

In this answer, Oda is clearly talking about Dr. Vegapunk since their understanding of devil fruits is on another level compared to any other person in the series. The genius scientist’s accomplishments speak for themselves. He has managed to feed inanimate things devil fruits, a feat that is considered impossible for anyone else, and they were able to create a perfect replica of Kaido’s devil fruit. Vegapunk is also the person behind the creation of the original Pacifista that were equipped with Kizaru’s laser. Vegapunk didn’t stop there and decided to modofy the Pacifista. These new Pacifista are called Seraphim, and they are much stronger than their previous versions. It has also been mentioned in the story that Dr. Vegapunk has successfully mastered the lineage factor. All these things are undoubtedly very important to the story, and Dr. Vegapunk could help unravel the mysteries behind them.
Who Is Vegapunk?
In the chapter, Dr. Vegapunk had the body of a woman, which confused many readers, as in the past, Vegapunk has always been called an old man. In the anime, Vegapunk’s voice sounded like that of a man, which raises even more eyebrows about the person’s claim. So, does this mean that the anime made a mistake? The answer is, no. It is possible that after uncovering the secrets of the Lineage factor, Vegapunk thought of modifying their existing body, and for them, it wouldn’t be a problem considering they have accomplished much bigger tasks.
However, the fans haven’t bought this explanation completely. Another popular belief among some of the readers is that the person could actually be Vegapunk’s daughter, who could have been created by the scientist using the Lineage Factor. However, this idea is flawed as it wouldn’t make sense for Vegapunk’s daughter to call herself Dr. Vegapunk, instead of using her own name.

There is some strong evidence that supports the person being another creation of Dr. Vegapunk. In the chapter, all the mechanical creations of Vegapunk seemed to have a number inscribed on them. The mechanical shark had the number 3, the huge robot had the number 12, and the person claiming to be Dr. Vegapunk had the number 2 inscribed on their suit.
This heavily implies that it is actually a cyborg created by Vegapunk, or it could be the original Seraphim. As it stands, the person who came out of the robot is Dr. Vegapunk andBonney seemingly holds a grudge against her. There is no doubt that the truth behind Vegapunk’s identity will be uncovered in the upcoming chapters, and Oda will provide the readers with a perfectly logical explanation.
