At its very core, the Egghead Island archas hints about the events of the Void Century and the biggest brain of all, Dr. Vegapunk, who lays them out to the fans. So far, fans have slowly been introduced to the many bodies of Dr. Vegapunk, along with some more action that’s going on in the New World between the powerhouses Law and Blackbeard. However, the major focus of the arc remains to be the genius scientist of the Navy. One Piece1066 saw him deliver quite a lot of lore about the Void Century and uncover the aftermath of the destruction of Ohara from 22 years ago.
The Secrets Of The Void Century
At the end of last week’s chapter, the secrets of the Void Century wereteased by Oda through Vegapunk. When the Straw Hats finally met Shaka and marveled at the futuristic beauty that was Egghead Island, Shaka revealed that the island was actually set in the past. In fact, the island was his attempt to mimic the Ancient Kingdom that existed 900 years ago and was technologically advanced. One Piece1066 shed more light on this and Vegapunk revealed that this kingdom once thrived long ago. However, 20 Kings banded together to fight the Ancient Kingdom, and eventually, a massive war broke out. At the end of this war, the 20 Kings somehow emerged victorious and the Ancient Kingdom was completely wiped out. All information about this kingdom was wiped out all the same and anyone who so much as learned about its existence became a target for the wrath of the World Government as well. This is something that the fans already pieced together long ago, however, with this chapter, they finally have a confirmation from the author himself, which is nothing short of incredible. Given thatthe Ancient Kingdom created the Ancient Weapons, one of them being Pluton, it is no surprise that their technology was incredibly advanced and that was, once again, hammered home by Oda in this week’s chapter.
Vegapunk And Monkey D. Dragon
While the information about the Ancient Kingdom was certainly mind-boggling, it wasn’t the biggest part ofOne Piece1066. Undoubtedly, the most intriguing bits about the chapter came through Dr. Vegapunk’s own flashback. Vegapunk is an incredibly important character to the overarching plot ofOne Pieceand his flashback proves that he is set to play a major role moving forward. Vegapunk revealed to the fans, in this week’s chapter, that he was close friends with Professor Clover of Ohara once. When Ohara was destroyed, Vegapunk visited the island to take a look at the disaster that had unfolded by himself. What he found there was a shocking scene where all the books from the Tree of Wisdom had filled the lake underneath and the Giant Pirates were seen fishing the books out.

There, Vegapunk met Dragon and it was established thatthe two had some sort of connection in the past. At this point in the story, Dragon was not the leader of the Revolutionary Army. Instead, he was a freedom fighter. One Piece1066 went on to reveal Dragon’s ideology to the fans. Although many had guessed already, Dragon is a pacifist and absolutely hates wars. However, he also recognizes the fact that the world is oppressed under the regime of the Celestial Dragons and wants to take power from them and give it back to the people. After the destruction of Ohara, Dragon vowed to establish a mighty powerful army capable of rivaling the World Government itself. Meanwhile, Vegapunk had already started working for the Navy at this point, however, it must be noted that this was done only because the Navy had resources that he needed to put his mind to work. The genius mind that is Dr. Vegapunk also ended up making his official debut towards the end of the chapter in front of Luffy and, from here onwards, the story is only going to get even more interesting.
Saul’s Grand Return
If all that wasn’t enough,One Piece1066 also delivered an incredible comeback of a beloved character from before the timeskip of the story. During the Enies Lobby arc, the fans were introduced to Jaguar D. Saul in Robin’s flashback. Saul was seen being frozen by Aokiji and presumed to be dead by many. This chapter revealed that Saul had survived the ordeal. This makes sense, looking back at the technique that Aokiji used to freeze Saul, known as the “time capsule,” and it is evident that it only froze him momentarily. After being thawed, he led the Giant Pirates and saved the precious work of the scholars of Ohara, taking all the books back with him to Elbaf. Nico Robin was delighted to hear about Saul’s survival and this sets up an eventual meeting between the two in the coming future. At the same time, this makes Elbaf an even more important arc going forward in the story. Fans already know that Elbaf is going to be the next major arc following Wano Country, and that is certainly something that solidifies that even more.
