Marvel Snaphas officially entered its May season entitled Guardians Greatest Hits and with it comes a variety of new card releases over the course of the month. Coming off the heels of a season dominated by the controversial Galactus, this season ofMarvel Snapcould be set to see a drastic swing in the meta with the release of the High Evolutionary card. However, while many players are excited about this upcoming card, the recently released Season Pass card Nebula is on track to play a surprising role in the coming meta.
After a season that sawMarvel Snapplayers dealing with Galactus, a card that was controversial due to its game-altering ability, many players have come to adopt a variation of the control deck archetype to help manage the tempo of the match. One of the easiest ways tocounter Galactus inMarvel Snapinvolves using control deck to manage where opponents can and can’t play cards. With this strategy becoming more popular thanks to the threat of Galactus, Nebula is a natural addition to the archetype.

Nebula is a Staple for Control Decks in Marvel Snap
The objective ofcontrol decks inMarvel Snapis to react to an opponent’s play style and counter it accordingly utilizing a variety of versatile cards. This strategy typically involves controlling the locations an opponent is able to play their cards in, effectively giving the player total control over the match. There are few must-use 1-Cost cards in this archetype, but the addition of Nebula this season makes a compelling case for her to become a new staple for control decks.
Nebula is a 1-Cost/1-Power card with the ability to gain +2 Power each turn an opponent doesn’t play a card at the same location as her. Not only is this a great way to potentially boost the power of a1-Cost card inMarvel Snap, but it helps establish control of the field early on by forcing the opponent to play a card at Nebula’s location or risk giving her free Power. As such, players can take advantage of this momentum to play cards that synergize well with Nebula, such as her fellow Guardians of the Galaxy who gain a Power boost if the opponent plays a card at the same location that turn, contributing to the overall strategy of control decks.
Other, higher-cost cards that make for a great ramp after Nebula is played are Storm,Spider-Man, and Professor X. Storm can be played on turn 3 to flood a location and lock opponents out of playing there the following turn, and Spider-Man can be played on turn 4 to prevent players from playing at another location the following turn. This strategy can either be used to force players to play cards away from Nebula’s location or set up Professor X on turn 5 and lock down a location the player is already winning. Daredevil makes for a great companion in this setup as well since his ability lets the player see where there opponent is going to play their cards on turn 5.
Control decks are a very versatile archetype inMarvel Snap’s meta, and the addition of Nebula could make them even more popular this season. While the other Guardians of the Galaxy cards have never been that prominent in the meta, their synergy with Nebula and the control deck archetype in general also makes them likely to see a surge in use during this appropriately titled season. Despite the hype surrounding the addition of High Evolutionary coming later this month,Marvel Snapplayers shouldn’t underestimate the power of Nebula.
