As soon as the calendar flips over, many start looking forward to the first gaming presentations of the year. Sony, for example, recently had its firstState of Play event (focused onGran Turismo 7), and many are expecting a Nintendo Direct soon. This isn’t entirely without basis either. There has been aNintendo Directevery February since 2012, with the sole exception of 2018 (where it happened in March).
Nintendo may very well have a lot to talk about too, but whether it’s something like a newPokemongen,Pokemon Legends: Arceus,or something mostly focused on theupcoming release ofKirby and the Forgotten Landremains to be seen. Every February Direct has had a different style in terms of content matter and presentation, but it’s a safe bet that one is happening.

In fact, Nintendo leaker Zippo has chimed in regarding a potential Direct in February. Zippo has accurately predicted or leaked things in the past, such as theexistence ofMetroid Dreadand by what company it was being developed, but a lot of their claims have gone unsubstantiated before too. This is, by definition grain of salt territory, but it could be a big Direct if Zippo is remotely accurate.
Zippo states that thisfirst Nintendo Direct of 2022could take place next week, according to what they’ve been hearing. Furthermore, Zippo claims it’s going to be a big one, and so it’ll be interesting to see if this is true, how long it is, what type of Direct it is, and what will be there. Zippo’s comments raise more questions than answers, as Zippo makes clear that they’re not sure what all will be there.
According to the leaker though,Kirby and The Forgotten Land, Splatoon 3, Advance Wars 1+, Xenoblade 3, and anewFire Emblemtitleare likely to be there. Ultimately, Zippo says to expect huge bombshells, as Nintendo has apparently been holding back quite a bit. Zippo ends their blog with a simple but powerful clam as well, stating that anyone who has made “Super Bowl sized money bets on this newMario Kartnot being real, you’re going to be out a lot of money.”
Mario Kart 9rumorshave been circulating quite a bit over these past few months, and given the sheer popularity of the franchise, a reveal of it would be quite the bomb drop. Still, fans should await proper confirmation from Nintendo before letting their imaginations get too wild.
