While Amazon’sNew Worldhasn’t had a flawless rollout, no one could argue it’s anything other than a resounding success. Various bugs and hiccups haven’t stopped the colonial-inspired fantasy MMORPG fromclimbing to the top of the Steam charts.

However,New Worldstill has many problems that need fixing. Among them is the issue of players’ weapons clipping into each other. And while that might not be the most urgent problem in the Amazon MMO, it is a big annoyance for many players.

User rkaidtv brought the issue up on Reddit, though they are hardly the first to notice the problem. For the unfamiliar,New Worldlets the player switch between two weapons equipped on their character. Depending on the weapon’s size, the game displays it either across the player characters’ back or on their hip. However, the game doesn’t check if there’s already a weapon holstered in that position. So, if a player has, for example, two staves, they’ll clip into each other on the character’s back. The same happens with one-handed weapons hanging from the character’s hip.

There are multipleways Amazon could fix the problem. The Reddit poster’s suggestion was to make the weapons appear as an X across the character’s back. Amazon could also opt for a side-by-side arrangement similar to theWitchergames. As for one-handed weapons, developers could move the second to the character’s back or opposite hip. Alternatively, Amazon could choose only to display one weapon if both would use the same space. However, that might come across as a lazy solution.

And it’s not like Amazon Games don’t already face accusations of rushed or lazy design. After all, the problem may not be severe but should have been evident to whoever designed that part of the game. There are also other signs pointing to a lack of attention to detail. For example,New Worldhas a comparatively limited number of weapon models for a modern AAA MMO. The game’s also taken heat in the past for lackluster enemy variety. Another player in the Reddit thread went into a short rant aboutNew World’smany minor but numerous bugs and annoyances. And that is not even getting intothe game’s still excessively long queue times.

Yet, none of these irritations seem to have haltedAmazon’s success withNew World. And as another Reddit commenter pointed out, the release build is relatively free of crashes and game-breaking bugs. However, the term “relatively” is still doing a lot of heavy lifting.New World’s developers have plenty of work to do regarding patches and other fixes. How well Amazon addresses these concerns may foreshadow the game’s long-term future.
