Katsuki Bakugou is an extraordinary student with a short temper. This boy doesn’t need to be told he’s good, he already knows. Bakugou has enough confidence for everyone plus some more, but he wasn’t hero material at first. Having a great quirk isn’t the only thing one needs to be a good hero, and Bakugo served as a perfect example of that early on in the series.
Bakugou’s first appearance in season one made him out to be a bully, specifically, Izuku Midoriya’s bully. Bakugo often berated Deku, telling him that he had no chance of being a hero because he had no quirk. As the show progressed, fans saw thathe was easily angered,felt himself above everyone else, and had none of the social qualities needed to be a hero. Gradually fans started to notice changes to Bakugou as the series progressed.

He Needed To Lose
Throughout his entire life, Bakugou was praised for his quirk. Understandably, since his quirk allows him to do distant and close-range attacks and launch himself into the air, the praise helped with his confidence but created a huge ego that was easily bruised. Bakugou needed to learn that he would fail and that his quirk wasn’t always enough. Sadly he had to learn this the hard way.
After being kidnaped by the League of Villains, Bakugou was a bit more distant, probably because he wasn’t able to free himself. He had to rely on otherswhile All-Might lost his powersto save him. Following this, Bakugou also failed his provisional licensing exam, adding to his failures.
These events made Bakugou adapt and accept that saving people was part of being a hero. He’s even started prioritizing it over fighting the villains. Bakugou has also started to include others in his plans instead of just dragging them along or leaving them behind. This doesn’t mean his personality has changed. Bakugou still considered others as extras, but he’s now more willing to cooperate with others. Somethingheroes do every day. Although he still needs to work on his social skills, his entire interview got cut in season five because he wouldn’t stop yelling.
More Than Meets the Eye
Like plenty of other characters inMy Hero Academia, many of Bakugou’s interests and talents were revealed as the series progressed. Such as his ability to cook, something that fans learned during the summer training arc. A small detail like this can tell fans a couple of things about the explosion boy. First is that he doesn’t want to or have to rely on anyone, even food. He also appreciates a well-cooked meal because he’s aware of the effort that was put into it. That means he probably appreciates hard work more than fans initially thought. Though finding out that Bakugouis a diligent studentis also a great clue to this.
Something else fans find out during the festival arc is that Bakugou plays the drums. Supposedly he was forced to learn, probably to help reign in his anger. However, he was willing to put effort into the instrument and was good enough to play in the band. This shows that he is a hard worker. This is why fans got to see him level up so much in the last couple of seasons. Techniques like AP shot, Explode-A-Pult, and the speed he gains learning under Endeavour.

So, Bakugou is a moody teenager that can’t communicate his feelings.He cares deeply abouthard work, being a great hero, and leveling up his powers. He’s been able to grow as a person by prioritizing saving people and keeping his comrades safe over deafening the villain first. A giant leap from the young man who had to be strapped down to the number one podium during the Sports Festival. What else is next for Bakugou and his development?
Now that Bakugou knows about Deku and One for All, fans will probably see more of the two training together. To learn more about the previous user’s quirks. Fans can also expect some type of lesson on communication, specifically with the media. Screaming at the cameraman and interviewer isn’t going to cut it anymore.Since his training withEndeavour fans, he should probably expect Bakugou to level up his powers faster than before. This is the staple of the second half of season five, with a number of students and villains discovering more about their quirks. Based on the trailers released for season six, Bakugou will have to hurry because the fight between the Paranormal Liberation Front and the Heroes is coming fast. Will Bakugou finally put his anger away long enough to work with Deku and Todoroki in this fight? He’ll have to keep up with what’s coming.
