Summary
The following contains spoilers forMy Hero AcademiaChapter 412, “History’s Maddest Hero,” by Kohei Horikoshi, translated by Caleb Cook available in English fromViz Media.
My Hero Academiareturned earlier this week with an incredible chapter, and as expected, the story is continuing at a blistering speed towards its end. Fans expectedthe fight between Deku and Shigarakito continue with full intensity and it certainly did, especially after Deku’s back was against the wall towards the end of the previous chapter.

My Hero Academiachapter 412 made things worse for Deku and it appears that his only option now is to gamble everything he has and hope that he achieves victory somehow. Things are getting even more intense as the fight between Deku and Shigaraki continues, and, hopefully, the upcoming chapter will expand upon this even more.
Deku’s Powerful Assault On Shigaraki
My Hero Academiachapter 412 gave fans a proper glimpse of what Deku could do in combat.Given that he had limited time because of Gear Shiftcontinuously running out, Deku had to stop Shigaraki from launching a powerful Decay and blowing up Mount Fuji. To counter the Decay, Deku used the power of Maximum Fa Jin and utilized other abilities to stop Shigaraki. This ended up being a very successful attempt and Shigaraki certainly was stopped in his tracks. The Decay that he launched at Deku was stopped as well, and, thankfully, it ended up buying Shigaraki some time.
To launch another powerful attack on Shigaraki, Deku made clever use of his Quirks, such as Smoke Screen. He then combined it with Gear Shift to ensure that the Smoke Screen lasted for longer and spread slower. This was used by him as a cover to launch an attack on Shigaraki and it certainly worked, at least for the first time. Fans have continuously seen Deku use his incredible intellect while fighting this battle, and, once again, Deku’s brilliant mind was put on full display inMy Hero Academiachapter 412. Deku’s innovative fighting nature has always been one of his biggest strengths and this is proof that he certainly deserves to be the greatest Hero in the world.

Shigaraki’s Search Ability
While Deku certainly did have his moments inMy Hero Academiachapter 412, at the end of the day, he was not strong enough to withstand the power of Shigaraki. Even thoughDeku used the quirk combinations to counter Danger Sense, which was stolen by shigaraki earlier, it was not enough. Shikaraki made use of the Search quirk to locate Deku within the thick clouds of Smoke Screen. As a result, he could also figure out his exact weakness, where to hit him, and how to hit him. Expectedly, Shigaraki made use of all this knowledge and attacked Deku immediately when Gear Shift ran out.
As soon as this ability ran out, the after-effects hit Deku and his body became almost paralyzed. Furthermore, Deku could not breathe at all and that is why Shigaraki made full use of this opportunity to injure him greatly. At this point, it is quite clear for the fans to see that Shigaraki has the upper hand in this battle. He is unstoppable and, as he put himself, Deku might have stopped one of his assaults, however, he cannot do that every single time. Furthermore, even though Deku could have the power to deal deadly damage to Shigaraki, he cannot keep it up because such high-intensity strikes would require Gear Shift to last much longer, which is not possible.

The Plan Of The Vestiges
My Hero Academiachapter 412 also focused heavily on Deku’s ideals. Shigaraki and Deku are two incredible warriors who are fighting against one another, not just on a physical level but also on an ideological level. Deku wants to save Shigaraki because that is his ideology. He doesn’t want to leave behind even a single soul that requires help, and to him, Shigaraki still has that same child inside of him who once called for hell but didn’t receive any.
To Shigaraki, however, that child has already changed. He believes that the child morphed into what the world required him to be, and, as a result, is now using the powers of his quirk to bring utter destruction.

Shigaraki tried his utmost best to convince Deku that he is no longer in need of help, however, it fell on deaf ears as Deku was convinced that he could help Shigaraki and it appears that he will try his best to do that as well.
More importantly, the vestiges reflected on what Deku believes as well. Even though the likes of Nana want Deku to completely obliterate Shigaraki, because not everyone can be helped, Deku holds true to his ideals and does not waver. This was seen once again in the chapter and, it is likely how Deku’s fight against shigaraki will conclude. The end of the chapter brought forth a very surprising turn of events when the second user of One For All, Kudo, suggested a very bizarre idea to Deku.

According to Kudo, Deku should be ready to give up the One For All and this is supposed to aid him in battle somehow. What exactly the plan is here isn’t known. It is certainly a shocking turn of events, however, it is one that appears like it will come into play sooner rather than later. It is safe to say that the ending of the chapter was the most exciting and the most shocking part at the same time. It also set great things up for My Hero Academia chapter 413 and fans are excited to see how the author tackles the upcoming events of the story.
Deku’s Weakens
My Hero Academiachapter 412 made it quite clear to the fans that Deku is losing this battle already. He is considerably weakening with each passing chapter, and, at the same time, he’s also losing his Quirks. Gear Shift is no longer active and Danger Sense has already been stolen from him. The next swipe from Shigaraki will see all the others likely being taken away as well. Then, One For All is the one ability that he has up his sleeve, however, as suggested by Kudo, it appears that this power will be taken away from him as well.
Deku is turning back into the Quirkless boyhe was and this change could end up being devastating for him. However, at the same time, Kudo wouldn’t suggest this unless he had a big plan and this also means that it could open up a path towards helping Shigaraki understand Deku’s point of view and stopping this utter destruction.
Regardless of what direction this plot takes from here onwards, fans can rest assured that the conclusion will be handled perfectly by the author.Every single major fight in the Final War SagaofMy Hero Academiahas been handled brilliantly and this fight will be no exception. Thankfully, My Hero Academia is on no break next week and the manga will continue as usual.
My Hero Academia is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and theManga Plusapp. The release date for the next chapter of My Hero Academia, My Hero Academia chapter 413, is set to be Jul 11, 2025.
