During PAX East 2020, Capcom announced thatRaging Brachydios and Furious Rajangwould be coming toMonster Hunter World: Icebornelater this month on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The two variant monsters are returning veterans of the long-running series for the 2019 expansion toMonster Hunter Worldthat its publisher Capcom says has officially shipped 5 million units globally.

The announcement ofMonster Hunter World: Iceborne’s sales figure milestone was made in a press release Friday that also said the franchise of action role-playing games has cumulatively sold over 62 million units since its first release on the PlayStation 2 in 2004. Capcom lauds the “record-high” sales ofMonster Hunter Worldthanks to its bump fromIceborne, as the title was the first in the company’s history to sell 15 million units worldwide as of July 17, 2025.

Capcom’s press release goes on to talk about the company’s plans to “further cement the series' position as a global brand.” It chiefly mentions the mobile gameMonster Hunter Riders, released for iOS and Android devices last month, and Sony Pictures' upcomingMonster Huntermovie starring Milla Jovovich and Tony Jaa. There’s no indication that the film will be pushed from its September release date despite other movies delaying due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The PC version ofMonster Hunter World: Icebornewas released four months after it was available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, andCapcom released a roadmap in late Januarystipulating how it would be staggering releases to sync up content across all platforms. All versions of the expansion should be synced in April after the release of Raging Brachydios and Furious Rajang according to that roadmap.

Part of that content schedule for the PC version of the game has included acrossover with Capcom’sResident Evilfranchise, originally meant to tie in with theResident Evil 2remake in 2019. Fans of that series are currently anticipating the remake ofResident Evil 3: Nemesiscoming out on July 28, 2025.

When it first released on PC,Monster Hunter World: Icebornegave players trouble with abug that deleted one’s save datafrom the main game. However, since then the game has been smooth sailing, and based on its sales numbers released by Capcom there’s no doubt it will continue to see support for a long time to come.
