TheMetal Gear Solidgames have always been a unique mix of equally bizarre storytelling and gameplay mechanics. The series has enjoyed massive critical and commercial acclaim right from its inception on the PlayStation in 1998. The series has evolved a lot over the years, and each entry would bring a bunch of new ways to interact with the game, which meant each game enjoyed long stretches of fan-hype.
2015’sMetal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Painhas proven to be a painful death for the series, following the departure of series creator Hideo Kojima from Konami. Attempts to continue the series, likeMetal GearSurvive, seem to have been in vain. Now, rumors seem to imply that Konami is willing to outsource development on theMetal Gearproperty to new studios. All of this chaos has made the possibility of aMetal Gear Solid 6seem highly unlikely, which may be disappointing for many fans.

Is A Metal Gear Solid 6 In Development?
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Painwas the last Kojima-ledMetal Gear Solidgame developed. The game’s development historywas a rough one, ripe with difficulties both known and unknown. The final stretches of development saw Kojima Productions' role greatly reduced, following a disagreement with the company’s higher executives who wished to pour more resources into the mobile market. While the game was great in its own right, the cracks were definitely visible, with reports of cut content and recycled missions in the later acts of the game.
After the release ofMetal Gear Solid 5and Kojima’s subsequent departure, Konami tried to capitalize on the franchise’s fandom withMetal Gear Survive. This game turned the tactical espionage action of the original games into a generic zombie survival game. Fans were furious to see such a downgrade, and the negative critical and commercial reception supports that sentiment.

Currently, there are no prominent rumors or reports regarding a new mainline entry in theMetal Gear Solidseries. It wouldn’t be an understatement to say that a lot of what fans love about the games is the sheer creativity and artistry beneath the plethora of ideas that Kojima brings to the table. That being said, it’s definitely possible for Konami to create a successor without Kojima at the helm, but fans shouldn’t expect anything related for some time now.
Signs That Point Towards A New Metal Gear Game
It’s definitely true that there isn’t anyMetal Gear Solid 6in the works at the time of writing, but rumors have been running rampant regarding a remake of the originalMetal Gear Solidcollection. Konami is reportedly licensing third-party studios to work on theMetal Gear Solidproperty, backing rumors regardingMetal Gear Solidremakes, which are supposedly exclusive to the PS5 and PC. While it isn’t confirmed at the moment,Bluepoint Gamesis rumored to be working on the remake(s).
Fan-speculation suggests that if such a remake garners a considerable amount of commercial and critical acclaim, it would result in the commencement of future entries in theMetal Gear Solidfranchise. However, fans should note that these are just speculation, and all of this should be taken with a grain of salt.
