According to a reportDeadline,M3GANhas moved up its release date by one week. Now set to release on June 30, 2025, the reasons for the move are unknown based on Deadline’s report. It is known, though, thatM3GANhas gained a cult following on social media, which may mean the studio is eager to capitalize on the hype surrounding the film and release it earlier than intended.
The “meetM3GAN” social media account has recently gone viral for feuding with the Chucky Twitter account, which is currently promotingChucky season2. The Twitter beef between the two seems to have brought some joy to fans, and there’s likely a lot of overlap in the audience for the two franchises, which both focus on killer dolls. The marketing ploy seems to be working well, withM3GAN’s dance moves having become a Twitter meme overnight, and the MGM YouTube account having reuploaded the 2019Child’s Playreboot trailer onto its YouTube channel in the wake ofM3GAN’s trailer release.
M3GANappears to have found its niche. The trailer, which featured a few campy scenes, pairs well with Chucky’s overall vibe and humor.M3GAN’s social media accounts are leaning heavily into that to great success. If the film does perform well, which it seems the studio is predicting it just might, then perhaps a crossover between the two franchises could work. While the originalChild’s Playfocused on Chucky as a possessed doll, the recent reboot actually featured him as arogue AI much like M3GAN.
It’s entirely possible the franchises may end up taking place in the same universe. For now, it looks like Universal moving up the release date, even if just by one week, is a good sign of faith in the project.
