Marvel’s Avengershas recently announced that Sean Chiplock is the voice actor behind its iteration of Spider-Man. Chiplock’s name is now added to the illustrious pantheon of Spider-Man actors, but Chiplock admits that his adherence to the role did not come without insecurities and tribulations. Chiplock states that he suffered to some degree through the sheer acknowledgement of how largely the character is iconicized and cherished, asking himself questions such as, “Do I belong here? Do I know what I’m doing?”
But it is in that insecurity that Chiplock also believes he “MESHED with Peter Parker’s own” and could relate even further than before. Spider-Man fans understand the character’s empathetic losses and tragedies aresignificant parts of Peter Parker’s characterand that the balance of his desires and responsibilities is always on a razor’s edge. By identifying with these relatable concerns, Chiplock decided to use Spider-Man’s “human feelings to explore his character truthfully”.
TheMCU’s and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man was reportedly an influence of Chiplock’s as he entered the role due to his penchant for Holland’s “youthful tone.” But a balance also had to be struck between Peter’s “heroic voice” and a moreauthentic approach forMarvel’s Avengers, which Chiplock suggests may sound awkward, though it presents a genuine and unique take that was more enjoyable to perform.
While there have been many fantastic Spider-Man actors in games, film, and television before him, Chiplock ultimately finds that genuine authenticity has bled through positively in his andMarvel’s Avengers' interpretation of Spider-Manand hopes that players will be able to ascribe these sentiments to the performance as well.
Marvel’s Avengersis available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
