One of the most exciting times in a card game’s life cycle is reveal season, andLegends of Runeterrais no exception to this rule. InLegends of Runeterra, new cards often mean entirely new mechanics and styles of play, bringing fresh archetypes and region combinations to life.

With theLegends of RuneterraGuardians of the Ancient expansionbringing an entirely new region to the game successfully, Riot then moved on to include Bandle City as a new region in the next expansion. Though Bandle City has been the focal point of recent content, the Magical Misadventures cards being revealed daily vary in their region types.

This variation in regions has led to new champions such as Galio being revealed, and with Galio came new units that will certainly create new archetypes. The same goes forLeague of Legends' next rework champion Udyr, who was just revealed as a card by theLegends of RuneterraTwitter account. The reveal also shows off some followers that fit both with Udyr’s playstyle and lore.

Everything Revealed About Legends of Runeterra’s Udyr So Far

As with other videos put out by the Twitter account, the visuals are incredible, and the video also manages to display Udyr’s capabilities as a card. The video shows that Udyr will require the enemy nexus to be damaged 7 separate times throughout the game to level up. Though this seems like a tall order, it is actually less limiting than Sejuani or Gangplank because Udyr allows the damage to be dealt at any time rather than round by round. The payoff of playing Udyr is stance spells that each give an advantage and are highly flexible; the spells are comparable to Aphelios' moon weapons, which are also flexible created cards.

Whether Udyr will become one ofLegends of Runeterra’s best championsremains to be seen, but the power of created spells has been proven by many of the game’s champions so far. Champions that can continuously create cards offer an endless value engine that typically grows even stronger once the champion has leveled up. Though the same can be said for Udyr, the problem in his case is survivability. Kindred, another champion that players thought would bust the meta wide open, ended up being too slow and squishy for the game, and Udyr shares stats and mana cost with her pre-buff form.

WitheveryLegends of Runeterrafaction rankedby strengths and weaknesses, the Freljord is known for its survivability tools; these tools will serve to keep Udyr alive and generating value, and Udyr’s flexibility may be enough to turn games in players' favor. Though it is unlikely that Udyr will become the next Zoe or Aphelios, it is likely that many new archetypes will be built around the wildman.
