TheKingdom Heartsseries might add one more creative outlet to its roster alongside video games and manga comics. Reports are coming in claiming that Disney is developing a TV adaptation for it.

According to sources close to WGTC, Disney is currently developing the show to stream on its Disney + streaming service. These same sources have made past claims that ended up being true, such asDisney developing a live-action Robin Hood remakeand a She-Hulk show.

Of course, this supposedKingdom Heartstv series didn’t have many details shared about it outside of it being in development. However, it will apparently follow the standard formula of Sora, Donald, and Goofy exploring various Disney worlds. Beyond that, it’s unknown if the show will follow the plotline of the games, manga, or end up doing its own thing.

Its also not entirely clear as to how involved Square Enix will be — if they are at all. So whether or notFinal Fantasycharacters will make the cut remains a mystery. Although, whenKingdom Hearts 3excludedFinal Fantasy, it only caused fans to question the decision and request the characters return.

If Tetsuya Nomura — the director ofKingdom Hearts— ends up having any input, the show’s story will likely end up being canon to the series whole. He tends to have a habit of turning side projects into canonical pieces of the main storyline. The best example of this would beKingdom Hearts Chi— now calledUnion Cross.

If Disney really does want to go through with aKingdom Heartstelevision series, it’s a wonder why it’s chosen now to do it. The franchise has been around for nearly 20 years, and the company has never shown much interest in it before. The best guess would beKingdom Hearts 3sales, as it ended up doing 5 million units in only a week.

If the game’s sales did play a role in Disney’s supposed decision to create a tv show, thenFinal Fantasycharacters may actually be on the table.Final Fantasy 7 Remakebroke a PS4 sales recordin only three days after its initial release, so its popularity is undeniable.

On top of this, several of theFinal Fantasy 7 Remake’s main cast membershave a significant presence withinKingdom Hearts, so their addition would be an excellent way to capitalize on the game’s recent success. All in all, if the show does come to fruition, it’ll be interesting to see how Disney handles it.
