Katamari Damacyis a fondly remembered PS2 game that has stolen the hearts of tons of players worldwide due to its wacky gameplay and gimmick, where players roll a sticky ball around the map in hopes of making it big enough to roll over every object possible. Part of its success was due to the art style of its creator,Keita Takahashi, who has recently teased that he has a new title in development that will bepublished by Annapurna Interactive.
Keita Takahashi is one of the more humble developers in the industry, as he’s refused praise forKatamari Damacyunder the premise that it isn’t “innovative” or “creative.” He just wanted to bring some silly fun back into video games. He has also said in the past that he wishes to leave video game development someday, wanting to eventually design playgrounds for children instead. It seems Takahashi isn’t done with making games just yet, however, as he’s made it clear that a new game is on the way.

Annapurna Interactive shared a small teaser trailer ofKeita Takahashi’s next projecton social media. It seems that despite the nod to how Takahashi helped create theKatamariseries, this title is completely new. The small snippet fans have for now also seems to be teasing the game’s main characters, which appear to be a dog and its owner.
While both old and new fans would most likely love a newKatamarigame after therelease ofKatamari Damacy Rerollin 2018, this game may only feature a nod or two to Takahashi’s previous project because Bandai Namco Entertainment still holds the legal rights to the franchise. Due to the fact that Takahashi now runs his own gaming studio known as Uvula LLC, if a sequel were to be produced, it most likely wouldn’t be with his involvement.
It should also be noted that this new game looks to still be in the beginning stages of development as well, as Uvula LLC’s social media accounts have been posting that it’s hiring a new engineer for this game specifically. However, because the title is being published by Annapurna Interactive, it could be launched on a number of consoles whenever it finally releases, including a version for Nintendo Switch.
Even if it isn’t a new entry to theKatamariseries, this new title already looks rather cute and heartwarming. The short and sweet video ends with a vague “more to come” statement that implies fans will be given more info sooner or later, with the little white dog also wondering when and where the news will be coming from. Fans ofKeita Takahashi’s wacky and silly titles might want to keep an eye on what’s coming next from Annapurna Interactive.
