Since June, Ray Fisher has been openly recounting his negative experience working with Joss Whedon on reshoots for Warner Bros. and DC’sJustice League. Now, Fisher has shared details on exactly how many of his scenes as Cyborg were altered by Whedon’s revisions to Zack Snyder’s original cut.
Roughly a month after Zack Snyder announced that Warner Bros. would release his version of Justice Leagueon HBO Max in 20201, Ray Fisher retracted his earlier praise of Whedon and accused him of abusive behavior during reshoots on the DC film. Most recently, Fisher accused Whedon and Warner Bros. executives at the time ofracist behaviorthat he suspects played a part in actors of color, including himself and Kiersy Clemons, having their roles diminished or excised in the theatrical cut ofJustice League.

Whedon’s changes to Snyder’s version ofJustice Leagueresulted in much ofCyborg’s origin story being removedfor the theatrical release. However, Fisher has now revealed that even the Cyborg scenes included in the theatrical cut were comprised primarily of material shot by Whedon, with only one exception. “Some things were, like, similar with the reshoots as what we did with the original, and so it’s hard to, like, tell with certain shots of other people for scenes that I wasn’t there for,” Fisher said during an interview on the Geek House Show podcast. “But what I can tell you from my character, and for what you saw in the theatrical version, that every single scene with the exception of the Gotham City police rooftop scene with Commissioner Gordon and Batman and Flash and all that… every single scene that I’m in was reshot. I reshot almost the entire film on my end. As far as other people’s stuff where I wasn’t there, I can’t really tell you.”
Many of the deleted Cyborg scenes are expected to be restored in Snyder’sJustice League, which will be released on HBO Max as a four-part miniseries consisting of hour-long installments. In order to accommodate the release model, HBO Max is investing innew material to be shot by Snyderthat will involve Fisher, Amber Heard, and Jared Leto as the Joker. While the new edition ofJustice Leaguewill include deleted story elements and characters originally intended to lay the groundwork for future sequels, Snyder’s version will now exist in its own continuity and is not expected to narratively impact any of the upcoming DC Extended Universe films.
Among the more notable differences between Zack Snyder’sJustice Leagueand the theatrical cut will bethe inclusion of Darkseid. Snyder had intended to introduce the villain inJustice Leaguebefore expanding his role as the primary villain of the DCEU franchise, but Whedon opted to remove the character entirely and instead focused exclusively on his underling, Steppenwolf.
Not everyone is expected to take part in Snyder’sJustice Leaguereshoots tough. Henry Cavill hasdenied he would participate in the processbut expressed his full support for Snyder and was happy to see the filmmaker would finally be given a chance to realize his vision.
