The streaming service has confirmed the premiere date for the creepy, kooky reimagining ofThe Addams Family.WednesdayfeaturesScreamstar Jenna Ortegain the title role. This time around, Wednesday Addams is a teen girl who’s sent off to Nevermore Academy, her parents' alma matter, where mysterious and spooky happenings are the norm. Exploring Wednesday as both a budding author and a young woman struggling to find her place among her peers,Netflix’sWednesdaywill also feature plenty of mysteries for Wednesday to solve, including one that has vexed the school since her parents' time there.RELATED:The Addams Family: 7 Things You Might Not Know About WednesdayNetflix revealed the air date forWednesday, alongside a new poster featuring Ortega in character and wearing her Nevermore Academy uniform. Fittingly, the air date was revealed to be July 29, 2025, which lands on a Wednesday. The promotion also prominently features a tagline, which states the series comes “from the imagination of Tim Burton,” doubtless to draw in fans of the notoriously offbeat, gothic director.

The other members of the iconic Addams family will be portrayed by some notable names. Newcomer Isaac Ordonez will be portraying Wednesday’s younger brother, Pugsley Addams, while Luis Guzman will be portraying her father, Gomez Addams. Rounding out the cast is Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams. A new featurette that dove intoOrtega’s take on the iconic Wednesday Addamsspecifically pointed out that, in this adaptation, the Addams family will be explicitly portrayed as a Latino family.

Though some fans are turned off by Burton’s involvement, feeling that the veteran director has become too indulgent in his recent work, his aesthetic does closely match what one would think of when they pictureThe Addams Family.Dark and unconventional, the director will likely pay homage to the previous adaptations even as he updates the story for modern audiences. In fact,Christina Ricci is confirmed to be rejoiningthe Addams family on screen in an undisclosed role.

Care for the source material is usually a good sign when looking at an adaptation. So far, it seems like special care has been taken to properly reflect who the Addams family are as characters while also adding in elements from their various outings. Ortega, for instance, seems to channel much of Ricci’s take on the role. As she adapts to Nevermore Academy, viewers may be reminded of Wednesday’s trip to Camp Chippewa inThe Addams Family 2,where the character similarly had issues fitting in with her peers.
