Summary

Intelhas announced that its Application Optimization (APO) software has added support for 12 new games.Intel’s APO software is a recent technology intended to help players using the company’s CPUs get more performance from their games, and it is now taking a strong step forward with fresh titles being added.

Intel APO was initially planned exclusively forIntel’s 14th-gen CPUs, but the company later backtracked and is planning further support for 12th and 13th-gen CPUs, too. This will mean that many of the best gaming CPUs from Intel will be able to offer additional performance improvements going forward. The main issue right now is the adoption of the software, which will likely improve as more CPUs and games become officially supported. This recent drop is a great step forward in this regard.

As confirmed onIntel’s support page, APO has added a total of 12 new games to the program, including AAA titles such asRed Dead Redemption 2andWatch Dogs: Legion. This is a big jump in official support, after it launched with justMetro ExodusandRainbow Six Siege, giving the company another advantage in theIntel vs AMDdebate. Right now, only seven Intel CPUs are officially supported for APO: i9 14900KS, i9 14900K, i9 14900KF, i9 14900HX, i7 14700K, i7 14700KF, and i7 14700HX.

Intel APO New Games

While Intel APO now officially supports 14 games, the software also offers an Advanced Mode that users can enable at any time. This also allows users of any Intel 12th, 13th, or 14th-gen CPU to use APO and potentially see performance benefits in a wider variety of titles. However, Intel is clear that it “cannot guarantee any improvement or optimization to processor or games under this mode of operation,” so right now, anything beyond Intel’s official guidelines should be taken with a pinch of salt, even with some of the otherbest gaming CPUson the market.

Intel is often at the forefront of CPU innovation. Like AMD, it is always looking for new opportunities to push technology further, with strong competition breeding consistent innovation. Recently, more Intel Lunar Lake details leaked online, giving gamers a glimpse of the performance increases they can expect to see when the line launches, which is currently expected at the end of the year. Hopefully, this, alongside further APO improvements, heralds a great 2024 for Intel users.
