Hyper Scape, Ubisoft’s new fast-paced battle royale, is off to a great start. The free-to-play game’s PC open beta began on July 12 and is set to run straight through launch and the start ofHyper ScapeSeason 1. But with early success comes the attention of less ethical players, as well. Cheaters are already hard at work trying to breakHyper Scape’s protections and players are taking notice. Because of this, Ubisoft has put together a statement regarding ongoing anti-cheat efforts and planned improvements in the near future.

To start, Ubisoft directly addresses player feedback concerning a perceived increase inHyper Scapecheating activity. In response, Ubisoft makes clear that it’s actively banning cheaters. Over 10,000 accounts have already beenbannedfromHyper Scape, though more severe hardware ID bans are also being used. Ubisoft does note that its in-game banning software doesn’t trigger immediately. It only bans a player after several minutes, so as to obfuscate the trigger for the ban. As such, players may have to deal with cheaters in-game longer than they’d like.

Further, Ubisoft says that its cheating software is specifically built forHyper Scape’s matchmaking.Hyper Scapefans may be seeing Youtube videos or clips of cheaters that are recorded from the game’s Lobby or Training areas, where anti-cheat does not trigger. As such, there may be a perception of cheating being more common in-game than actually is true.

Ubisoft states that it, as well as its anti-hack partner BattlEye, are constantly watching theHyper Scapecommunity. Any and all cheats or clips showing cheating shared are investigated. In cases where an account hasn’t been banned oranti-cheatdid not trigger, the case is “immediately escalated” so that it doesn’t happen again.

ButHyper Scape’s current efforts aren’t the limits of what Ubisoft wants to do in its fight against cheaters. Ubisoft says that aPlayer Reporting toolis already in the works, so that players can report cheaters in-game as it’s happening. This feature is planned to be implemented at the start of Season 1, which Ubisoft is coming “very soon.”

The fight against cheating in online multiplayer games is neverending. There is no game that has perfect anti-cheat, andHyper Scapeisn’t any different. But if the best way to counter cheating is transparency with your community and quick response to feedback, thenUbisoftis on the right track.

Hyper Scapereleases on PC, PS4, and Xbox One soon, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
