Now that June’s gone by, the July critters are here to play inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons. Islanders have a long list of new summer fish and bugs to look forward to, but the finned Ocean Sunfish is definitely one that deserves special attention.
Summer inAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsis traditionally associated with the arrival of precious beetles, and ferocious (or lovable, depending on the player,) sharks, both of which are generally worth thousands of bells. Although players have been enjoying the wildlife- and looking forward to the debut ofwetsuits- since June, this month finally allows Northern Hemisphere players to try their hands at the enormous Ocean Sunfish.

The Ocean Sunfish is so large that it covers the entire player avatar when held out of water - it also happens to sell for 4,000 bells, which means that C.J. would happily shell over 6,000 bells for the slippery friend. Needless to say, this should be a priority for any player looking to boost their bell savings, and for any collector looking to complete their museum or craft every fish model. With rare beauties like theCoelacanth only appearing in rain, players may worry that the Ocean Sunfish will be difficult to track down. Thankfully however, the Ocean Sunfish is relatively easily identifiable.
Much like its name suggests, the Ocean Sunfish is only found in the ocean. It is found specifically between the hours of 4AM and 9PM. So players on the lookout for one should stick around the beach between those hours, and keep their eyes peeled for a fin, and a giant (“size 6”, technically,) fish shadow - if speed is of essence and the bait supply runs low, players should simply “scare” all other-sized fish away by running past them, so as to force new fish to appear. Ocean Sunfish is one of five huge and finned fish players can currently find, so there’s no guarantee the shadow will be an Ocean Sunfish. That said, all four of the other candidates happen to bevaluable rare sharks(e.g. Great White Shark, Whale Shark), so no sea basses to fear here.
Players hoping to fill their museum and also craft every model should be sure to track down a minimum of four Ocean Sunfish, that way they can safely sell all others thereafter. And if the Ocean Sunfish doesn’t sound so amazing, perhaps it’s time to catch a tricky walking leaf, orcheck palms for a rare Horned Hercules.
