Morbid Metalis an ambitious game filled with over-the-top action, flashy combos, and terrifying enemies, giving players a unique blend of range within its combat system. At the heart of the combat is the ability players have that allows them to switch between three powerful warriors, each with their own weapons and fighting styles. Being developed by a single person,Morbid Metalwas first revealed over a year ago, and seeing the progress has given a lot of the fans the hope that the game will live up to all its expectations. The three warriors that players can shapeshift into have their own design, movement style, weapons, and combat style that encourages players to actively switch between them, unleashing powerful combos. Morbid Metal’s Characters

Morbid Metal’sprotagonist can shapeshift into three different characters, a hard-hitting close-rangeaxe wielder, a fast-moving mid-range swordsman, and a levitating long-range shooter. Each of the characters seems to have their own unique combos that not only chain together but can also be used with attacks from the other two characters to create quick chains of combat from a variety of ranges. This feat looks great in the gameplay trailer, with the player dishing out lethal combinations of sword, axe, and projectile hits based on how far away the enemy is.

Whether the character designs will remain the same throughout development is unknown, but all three characters do share certain similarities in design. For starters, each of the three looks likecyborg samurai straight out ofOverwatch, with technology being ingrained in their looks as well as their attacks. This reliance on advanced technology does not end there, however, as it is seen with many of the enemies, especially the boss battle against a giant robot.

How Shapeshifting Shapes Combat

From the gameplay trailer, fans got a chance to see how the three warriors can work in tandem with one another, switching places at a moment’s notice to chain together attacks. This works well since a lot of the attacks can often change the position of both the player and the enemy, requiring the player to switch to a different range of attack. Doing this allows the player to continuously deal damage without needing to reposition too much and can give the game a true hack-and-slash feel.

Since there is not a lot known aboutMorbid Metal’sgameplay mechanics, fans continue to wonder about the extent to which they will be able to shapeshift. From the trailer, it seems as ifthere are two ways to shapeshift, either by manually switching between forms or by performing attacks to start a combo that cycles through the different forms. The latter feature could prove to be instrumental for the game as it will combine the shapeshifting element with the attack, giving the combat a very fluid feel.

Morbid Metal’sgameplay trailer is exactly what any hack-and-slash game is aiming for: excitingly quick combat, terrifying enemies, and over-the-top weapons. Withgames likeDevil May Cryalready cemented into this genre of gaming,Morbid Metalwill have to come out swinging, and following the reveal at the Future Games Show, it looks primed to do just that. AsMorbid Metalcontinues development, it is likely that fans will get to see a lot more of the title, learning plenty about the enemies and the three warriors that are tasked with defeating them.
