Hogwarts Legacy: Protagonist’s Origin Story
Since theannouncement ofHogwarts Legacyin 2020, Avalanche Software has managed to tease players with details about the game’s protagonist. According to the studio,Hogwarts Legacytakes place in the late 1800s, and players will take control of an individual who received a late acceptance to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
It remains unclear why the protagonist received a late acceptance letter from Hogwarts, given that the school’s Quill and Book of Acceptance usually detect an individual’s magical ability from the get-go. It is assumed that the protagonist may be a late-bloomer, but this is yet to be confirmed. Given the late acceptance, the protagonist will enter Hogwarts as a fifth-year student, and after surviving an unidentified incident, the player would instantly become a celebrity among the students.
Moreover,Hogwarts Legacy’sprotagonist will bementored by Professor Eleazar Fig, who will work with the character to learn about their ability with ancient magic. Avalanche also confirms that the pair will investigate rumors about a goblin rebellion led by Ranrok, who is searching for ancient magic to eliminate wizardkind once and for all. Finally, at some point in the player’s journey, they will be joined by three students serving as their companions: Sebastian Sallow from Slytherin, Poppy Sweeting from Hufflepuff, and Natsai Onai from Gryffindor.
How Character Creation Works in Hogwarts Legacy
Another major detail Avalanche Studio confirmed about the protagonist is that instead of having a set character, players will be able to utilizea detailed character creation system. In a preview released by the developers,Hogwarts Legacy’scharacter creation tool will let players change characteristics such as hairstyle, skin color, scars, and gender. Moreover, players get to choose the house the protagonist is sorted into, and during the middle of the game, players can customize their character’s outfits by visiting shops in Hogsmeade.
Hogwarts Legacy’scharacter creation system will reportedly allow players to choose a masculine or feminine voice, body type, and more to add another layer of customization to the game. According to Avalanche Software, members of the development team are committed to making the game as inclusive as possible. Of course, given that the game is still in development, there are likelymany more details about the character creation systemAvalanche Software is still not ready to divulge. However, based on everything revealed thus far, it appears thatHogwarts Legacyis striving to allow players to customize their character however they see fit, whether creating a character that resembles them the most or the total opposite.
